Today at 16:42, I bought Stadatlas
Amsterdam, ISBN:9789074891318 for 6 Euro from bookshop De Slegte. I looked often at the book before, but before
it costed 15 Euro. I like this book because of all the maps in the
back part of the book with scales 1:9500 and 1:4750. In the back of
the book there is also a foldable map with scale 1:28,000 (if I
calculated it correctly).
Today at half past 12, I bought the book Twee tijgers rennen snel
(Two tigers run fast) by Huang Hé, ISBN:9789025743833,
for € 2.50 from bookshop De Slegte.
This is a book with CD about seven Chinese children songs. I again looked
at the Ongeluksvogels the Dutch translation of The Unofortunates by B.S. Johnson, which I am considering to buy.
Today, I finished readingDune by Frank Herbert for the fourth time, actually, the first time in the
original English, the edition printed by the New English Library,
ISBN:0450027279, which I bought on Saturday, April 3,
2010 second-hand from bookshop De Slegte
for € 4.00. The other three times, I read this book in the Dutch
translation. I decided to reread the novel, after having read Lynch's Dune,
1st Draft Screenplay on April 17. I found it
quite interesting to reread the novel. I was surprised that some parts of the
novel where much shorter than I remembered, but maybe my memory has been coloured
by viewing the movie adaptation.
Today, I found a DVD of "Dune" by Lynch for just € 1.66, which
without hesitation, I decided to buy. I watched the movie at home. When
I watched this movie in the Alhambra Theater in Enschede in the eighties,
I was quite disappointed about the movie. I remember that during the break
I felt that the movie had only covered the first twenty pages of the novel
and that I wondered how they would cover the rest. I was also annoyed by
the addition of the sound weapons. But now I think that this was not the
most bad think and might even be considered as a good movie adaptation.
This time, I felt that the movie was rather slow, but that is maybe true
for all movies of that time. This time I was surprised by the rather mystic
atmosphere, which I did feel in the novel at all. This already starts with
the telepathic abilities of Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam and ends
with the rain at the end of the movie, where Paul is ascribed supernatural
powers. I also felt that there was not much drama in the movie. Especially
the latter half is rather difficult to follow for someone who has not read
the novel.
This morning at 10:40, I bought De Ongeluksvogels (the Dutch translation
of The Unfortunates)
by B.S. Johnsons for € 19.99 from bookshop
De Slegte. Two weeks ago, I was already considering
to buy this book. One of the reasons why it took me so long to decided to buy
this book, is that a 2+1 (three for the price of two) deal applied to the
book, and I could not decided whether there where two other novels that I
would like to read. At the moment, I still have a whole stack of novels waiting
to be read. This evening, I read the introduction to the book, which explains
why the book consists of 27 loose parts that should be read in a randon manner
except for the two parts marked first and last.
Yesterday, I took (a Dutch version of) the Autism-Spectrum Quotient test and scored 35, which is considered as
high. In some way, I was surprised by this result, because I had not thicked
many "Definitely (dis)agree" answers. Today, I discovered that it for the
score it does not matter if you thick "Definitely" or "Slightly". Of course,
such a self-diagnostic online test isn't very reliable, but nevertheless I
found the result interesting, as it seems to be in accordance with the
suggestion that I might have Aspergers Syndrome.
Today at 16:56, I bought City Walks: Amsterdam by
Amelia Thomas from bookshop
De Slegte for € 3.00. It is not a real book,
but a collection of 50 cards with on each card a small map
and a description of a walk.
