Through the years my writing style changed a lot. I also experimented
with different kinds of diaries. In my freshman year at the university
I also kept an account of the things that happened
at my dorm. Later, I also wrote a diary about
what happened to my friends, because I felt that by writing a private
diary I was thinking too much about myself. Besides these diaries I
would usually also collect remarks in small note books (for example
Gedachten...), and a long time ago,
I also wrote some poetry (Dutch).
I also started a public diary a few years ago, in which I would write down some of my thoughts of the moment. But it has been a long time since I wrote anything in it.
I kept an account of all our preparations for our marriage, with the title How we got married. During our honeymoon to Hong Kong and P.R. of China, I wrote a diary about our travels. (Maybe this should be counted as a travelling journal.)
When we suspected that Li-Xia might be pregnant, we started a diary for our coming child. The first entry mentions that we picked the name Annabel, for if it would be a girl. It turned out that we were right to do so. Later, exactly the same happened for our second child, our son Andy. Also for him we have been writing diaries.
In earlier 1995, I wrote my first entry for an on-line diary. That diary now has entries in the years 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020. 2021, 2022. and 2023. This example only contains notes I made about some preachings.
On May 4, 2004, I appeared on Dutch television in the DolceVita talk show to tell something about my experience with respect to diary writing.
From 2009 on, I have used year diaries for taking details notes (often with times) of what I have done during the day. I use the 'general' diaries whenever I feel the urge to write about my emotions and/or feelings.
