Funerals I attended
Below a description of all the funerals that I
attended in my life.
Monday, October 17, 1983:
My paternal grandmother
A short and simple service was held in the chapel of "Heremaler Hof",
the nursing home where she stayed the last years of her life.
She was cremated in the crematorium "Doelwijck" on the Floridadreef
in Utrecht. We drank some coffee there afterwards.
Wednesday, October 9, 1985:
My maternal grandmother
The church meeting started at 11 AM in the St. Michaël church in De Bilt.
She was buried on the R.C. graveyard near the church.
Afterwards coffee was serverd in hotel/restaurant
"De Biltsche Hoek" in De Bilt.
Wednesday, June 8, 1988: Rob, an acquaintance
The church service started at 13:30 in "de VredesKerk" in Enschede.
He was buried at 14:30 on the Dutch Reformed graveyard in Usselo.
I did not attend the opportunity to drink coffee afterwards.
January 16, 1989: The younger sister of a good friend
I did not attend the funeral, but went to the opportunity to
see her the last time in the mortuarium and condole her family.
September 15, 1989: Pim, a student at the
University of Twente
This funeral was held in Arnhem. A lot of students were
present, and a good friend of mine held a short speech.
Saturday, January 5, 1991: Mrs. Velthuis
The church service started at 2 PM in the R.C. church in Buurse, but it
was not a R.C. service. She was buried on the graveyard besides the
church. Afterwards, coffee was served in a restaurant in Haaksbergen.
Thursday, July 4, 1991: Mrs. Somhorst
The church service started at 11 o'clock in "Evangelisch Centrum"
in Enschede. She was buried in Haaksbergen.
He was cremated in the crematorium "Doelwijck" on the Floridadreef
in Utrecht. We drank some coffee there afterwards.
She died on Saturday September 28.
The church service was held in "Evangelisch Centrum" in Enschede.
She was buried on the non-denominational graveyard on the Hengelosestraat
in Oldenzaal.
Thursday, August 28, 1997:
My godmother, aunt Jeanne
The church meeting was held at the St. Michaël church in De Bilt.
She was buried on the non-denominational graveyard "Brandenburg" in Bilthoven.
Afterwards coffee was served in hotel/restaurant
"De Biltsche Hoek" in De Bilt.
I did not attend his funeral, but went to look at him the evening before.
The church service was held in the St. Barbara R.C. church in Bunnik at
11 o'clock in the morning, and he was buried in the graveyard behind
this church. Afterwards coffee was served in hotel/restaurant
"De Biltsche Hoek" in De Bilt.
The church service started at 10:30 in the St. Nicolaas church in
Denekamp. He was buried at the R.C. graveyard close by.
Afterwards, coffee was served in the restaurant "De Gulle Waard".
The church service started at 10:30 in the St. Catharina church
in Woudenberg.
The cremation took place at 12:30 in the crematorium "Den en Rust" in Bilthoven, where afterwards coffee was served.
The cremation service started at 12:30 in
Crematoria Twente.
Afterwards coffee with some bread was served.
The church service was held in the Immanuel church in De Bilt at
2 o'clock in the afternoon. The funeral was held in "Den en Rust" in Bilthoven, where afterwards coffee was served.
I was invited for the dinner afterwards in "De Biltsche Hoek" and met with many relatives.
Saturday, December 23, 2006:
My aunt Cocky
The church service was held in the "St Peter in Chains" church in
Son en Bruegel.
During the service Emmy Verhey played the violin.
The funeral was held in "Begraafplaats en Uitvaartcentrum Wolfswinkel".
Friday, November 16, 2007: Mr. Gootjes
The church service started at 13:30 in the Dutch Reformed church of
Usselo. The preaching
was from Matthew 5:1-12 and Rev. 21:1-5. Immediately
following this, he was buried on the Dutch Reformed graveyard in Usselo.
Afterwards a reception was held.
Monday, June 16, 2008: Mrs. H.
I did not attent the funeral, but on the evening, Li-Xia and
I went to the home of Mrs. H. to condole her family. Li-Xia knew her
through a early-onset dementia support group.
Wednesday, January 7, 2009: Wout
The church service started at 14:15 in the baptistenkapel in Arnhem. The preaching was from Psalm 130.
The funeral was at 16:00 at the Moscowa graveyard. Li-Xia and I attended this funeral.
The church service started at 10:30 in the "St Peter in Chains" church in
Son en Bruegel.

Verhey played the violin. Immediately after the service, the funeral was
held in "Begraafplaats en Uitvaartcentrum Wolfswinkel".
Thursday, September 22, 2010: Father of colleague
The cremation service started at 13:30 in
Crematoria Twente.
Afterwards coffee with a kind of high-tea was served.
Wednesday, January 4, 2012: My aunt Hannie
The church service was held in the St. Barbara R.C. church in Bunnik at
2 o'clock in the afternoon, and she was buried in the graveyard behind
this church. Afterwards a reception was held at Locatie 78 in Bunnik.

Friday, July 26, 2013: Caroline
Went to condole her husband and parents the night before the funeral
in Glanebrug.
Thursday, September 18, 2014: Henkjan
The service started at 10 o'clock at De Oude Usselerschool. He was buried at
Begraafplaats Usselo.
Sunday, February 1, 2015: Mrs. Hietbrink
I did not attent the funeral, but on the evening, I went
to condole her family.
Tuesday, February 10, 2015: My Uncle Frans
The cremation took place at 16:00 in the crematorium "Den en Rust" in Bilthoven. Afterwards coffee was served.
Monday, July 13, 2015: Rob
Went to condole his wife and children. Cremation was not public.
The cremation service started at 9:30 in
Crematoria Twente.
Attended short memoral service.
The church service started at 11:00 in the St. Catharina church in Woudenberg.
A reception with lunch was held at restaurant Schimmel 1885. The cremation
with only the close family took place at the end of the afternoon.
