Kim Zwarts - Maastricht 148

On October 2, 2004, I bought the book "Maastricht 148", which has 148 pictures that Kim Zwarts took from May 8, 1994 to May 26, 1997. The introduction of the book (written by Bart Verschaffel) starts with: "Kim Zwarts chose the drawing of a grid from his sketchbook and spread this out over a map of Maastricht and vicinity. Then, in 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997, he photgraphed the 148 points within the city limits where the lines of the grid intersected." A little further, it says: "The 148 locations are not viewpoints; the grid does not say where the camera must be positioned or what it must register. The intersection points are that which must be photographed."

There has been an exhibition of the pictures in Centre Céramique. The pictures were displayed on the ground on a grid matching the position where the pictures were taken.

On Monday, September 11, 2006, I started to use Google Earth to discover the locations where the pictures were taken. On Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17, 2006, I continued my research, which resulted in this page and a Google Earth folder with information. I also entered the information on when the pictures were taken, and wrote a program to generate parts of this page. In the weeks after this, I continued extending this page and improving my findings. On Friday, October 13, 2006, I talked with Kim Zwarts over the phone about his work and what I have done. He gave me his email address and said he was willing to answer question if I had any.

The locations marked in Google Earth folder are based on the images released in September 2006. (It is possible that these images are shifted up to 50 meter from the there real location. It is possible that in the future, when these errors are corrected, might be displayed incorrectly.)

As an alternative to Google Earth, I developed "Maastricht 148" Google Map.

To identify the locations, I also made use of Map24, ViaMichelin, and, in some cases, of the phone book. Wikimapi also is an interesting souce of information. See Maastricht on Wikimapi. I often have used the ruler function in Google Earth to line up features seen in the picture to determine the location from which the picture was taken. In some cases, this made it possible to determine the location within a few meters.

On February 26-28, 2007, Li-Xia and I went to Maastricht to verify my findings. In the week before this trip, I made a "Maastricht 148" route description. For the details, read the report of our first "Maastricht 148" trip. When I studied the pictures that I took more closely, I discovered that in many cases I should have taken some more time to determine the exact location from which the photo from the book was taken.

On April 30 till May 2, 2007, we went to Maastricht for a second time to verify my findings and do some research. In the week before this trip, I made a route description for this trip. For the details, read the report of our second "Maastricht 148" trip.

On December 15, 2007, I discovered that the bookshop "De Slegte" in Enschede still has a whole stack of the books.

Below, a detailed description of how I identified the locations is given, or in case, I could not identify the location, why I failed to do so. I have made use of a number of categories with respect to the identification. These are:

Dates and times

The page following the title page of the book contains information about the dates and times when the pictures when taken.

Description of the pictures

Below information is given about each picture and some notes with respect to finding the location where the picture was taken.

[1] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 26, 1996. 10:22. The picture taken before this picture is [15] and after is [5]. The picture to the South is [3].

The picture shows the Meuse river. The intersection marker is placed at the South bank of the river near the Northest part of the Maastrich municipality. At first I thought that this picture was taken from the South bank facing the North bank, because there are some trees along the South bank at the location where the intersection marker is placed. However the view did not really match with what is visible in the picture. For example, there is nothing visible of the road called "Geulerweg". Now I think that the picture is taken from the North bank facing South. That means it is taken along the road called "Geulerweg", which lies in Belgium. The border is at the center of the river. The fact that picture [5], which was shortly taken after this picture, is also taken along the same road and that it is quite a trip from the South bank to the North bank, also supports this. I identified the location based on the trees that are visible in the picture. It looks like one of the small trees in the picture is no longer there. The big tree on the left side of the picture is the tree located at 50.908202 North, 5.707956 West. This tree is also visible in the pictures [2], [4], and [7]. In the far background, right of the tree, a church tower is visible, which most likely is the tower of the Roman Catholic church called "H. Martinus Kerk" in Itteren. I believe that the intesection point is not included in the picture.

On February 27, 2007 on 10:50, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that the location was correct. Changed category from "not sure" into "identified".

[2] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 26, 1996. 13:05. The picture taken before this picture is [42] and after is [11]. The picture to the East is [3], the South is [5].

The picture shows the Meuse river. The intersection marker is placed on the East bank of the Meuse river. At first I was not very sure about the location of this picture, but after I discovered that the right third of the picture overlaps with the left third of picture [5], I am quite sure about the location from which this picture is taken, which is along the road called "Geulerweg". On the left of the picture the tree can be seen that is also visible in pictures [1], [4], and [7]. In the middle of the picture the forms of the large farm called "Hartelstein" can be seen at the horizon. This farm can be seen from the otherside in picture [7]. I believe that the intersection point is not included in the picture. It is included in picture [5].

On February 27, 2007 on 10:34, I took two pictures at this location.

[3] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 7, 1997. 16:55. The picture taken before this picture is [6] and after is [18]. The picture to the North is [1], the East is [4], the South is [6], the West is [2].

The picture shows some trees. On the right side of the picture a church tower can be seen at the horizon. The intersection point is placed in the middle of some fields. The road closest to it is called "Meebruggerweg". In the vicinity there is no group of trees matching the configuration of the trees in the picture. I concluded that it was likely that some of the trees were cut down. I concluded that the most logical candidates where the trees in the continuation of the road called "Kerkveldweg". I noticed that in pictures [2], [5], and [7] there is a tree visible matching the most right tree in the picture. It this is the correct location, then that tree and the tree left of it would have been cut down since the picture was taken. It seems that the location of the hut that is visible in the background matches with the one visible in picture [2]. The church tower at the horizon matches the location of the church in Retem, Belgium, which is also visible in picture [4]. The location where this picture is taken is visible in picture [1], [2], [5], and [7]. I am not 100% sure about this interpretation. It seems that the intersection marker is not visible inside the picture.

On February 26, 2007 on 13:53, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. For this reason, I changed the category from "almost sure" to "identified".

[4] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 7, 1997. 14:54. The picture taken before this picture is [7] and after is [6]. The picture to the South is [7], the West is [3].

The picture shows field with some trees in the background. The intersection marker is placed along near the brook called "Geul". I concluded that the picture is taken from along the small (nameless) road East of the brook. On the left of the picture in the background the tree can be recognized that is also visible in pictures [1], [2], and [7]. The tree in the middle of the picture, which is bent to the right, can also be vaguely seen in picture [2]. Just right of the tree, under the top of the tree, a chuch tower is visible. This is most likely belongs to a church in Rekem, Belgium, which is also visible in picture [3]. I am not 100% sure about this interpretation.

On February 26, 2007 on 15:17, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. For this reason, I changed the category from "almost sure" to "identified".

[5] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 26, 1996. 10:48. The picture taken before this picture is [1] and after is [41]. The picture to the North is [2], the East is [6], the South is [8].

The picture shows the Meuse river from what appear to be the middle. The intersection marker is placed along the East bank of the Meuse river. It first I could not identify the location, but when I realized that the picture was taken in the direction South (based on the reflection of the sun in the river and the given time), I searched at a location along the road called "Geulerweg". It was then, that I discovered that the the left third of the picture overlaps with the right third of picture [2].

On February 27, 2007 on 10:32, I took two pictures at this location.

[6] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 7, 1997. 16:07. The picture taken before this picture is [4] and after is [3]. The picture to the North is [3], the East is [7], the South is [9], the West is [5].

The picture shows field with some bushes in the foreground and trees in the background. Between some low trees on the right side of the picture some kind of roof is visible. The intersection marker is placed in a field West of the road called "Meebruggenweg". Behind these low trees a number of high trees are visible, which seem to look like the trees from picture [3]. Just North of the intersection marker one can see a group of trees surrounding a red coloured patch. It looks like that this is the roof visible in the picture. By alining the most right high tree with the top of the roof, I arrive at a location along the road called "Meebruggenweg" where there are some bushes. The willos trees that can be seen on the left side of the picture seem to match the trees that can be seen along an unnamed brook between here and the road called "Kerkveldweg". The trees on the left which are standing in the middle of the field, cannot be found. For this reason, I am not absolutely sure about the identified location.

On February 26, 2007 on 14:11, I took two pictures near this location. However, studying these pictures made me conclude that the original photo was taken from a position more to the left, and also closer to the location as I had identified it before.

On May 1, 2007 on 12:35, I took two picture just in front of the bush shown in the picture, and one picture at the correct location, which does not show much of the landscape because the bush now fills the whole image. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[7] - Location identfied

This picture was taken on March 7, 1997. 14:17. The picture taken before this picture is [29] and after is [4]. The picture to the North is [4], the South is [10], the West is [6].

The picture shows a road to a large farm. The intersection marker is placed on corner of a large farm called "Hartelstein", which lies at the end of a road with the same name. In the past there used to be a castle at this location. (Some pictures.) It is clear that the picture is take along the road called "Hartelstein" and that it is the farm in the picture. I I am a little unsure of the exact location where on the road the picture is taken, but I did follow the left side of the farm to determine that it is not taken further away. Just left of the farm the trees can be seen where picture [3] is taken. I think that the third tree on the right of the most right building is the tall tree that is also visible in pictures [1], [2] and [4]

On February 26, 2007 on 15:26, I took two pictures near this location. When we arrived there, I very strong felt that the picture was taken from the beginning of the road, but when I studied the pictures at home, I noticed that this was wrong because the small poles right of the road did not match with the buildings. But still I concluded that the location was closer to the road then I had first thought.

On May 1, 2007 on 12:52, I took three picture at this location.

[8] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 12, 1997. 14:10. The picture taken before this picture is [13] and after is [12]. The picture to the North is [5], the East is [9], the South is [12].

The picture shows a field with a low dyke on the right. The intersection marker is placed below the West part of Itteren, just East of the road called "Pasestraat". It is quite obvious where the picture is taken. The location could be a little more forwards or backwards.

On February 26, 2007 on 13:36, I took two pictures at this location.

[9] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 11, 1997. 10:20. The picture taken before this picture is [18] and after is [10]. The picture to the North is [6], the East is [10], the South is [13], the West is [8].

The picture shows a street with some houses. The weather is rather foggy. The intersection marker is placed on the street called "Op de Bos" in the middle of the East part of Itteren. It took me some time to located the position, but I am quite sure about it. The name of the street where the picture is taken from is called "Keizerstraat". The name of the other road is "Op de Bos".

On February 26, 2007 on 14:41, I took one picture at this location. At the moment that I took this picture, I thought I had made a mistake, but at home I discovered that my initial identification had been correct.

[10] - Impossible to identify

This picture was taken on March 11, 1997. 11:05. The picture taken before this picture is [9] and after is [28]. The picture to the North is [7], the South is [14], the West is [9].

The picture shows many small trees with no identifiable features. The intersection marker is placed in a field with trees South of the path called "Bunder Voetpad". I would say that the picture is probably taken along this path, but there is really nothing that could proof this.

On February 26, 2007 on 14:31, I took one picture along the "Bunder Voetpad".

On May 1, 2007 on 12:46, I took three picture along the "Bunder Voetpad".

[11] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 28, 1996. 16:20. The picture taken before this picture is [2] and after is [29]. The picture to the East is [12], the South is [16].

In the front the Meuse river, with a single tree on the other bank. In the background fields. On the right edge of the picture there is a chimney visible at the horizon. The intersection marker is placed East bank of the Meuse river. From Google Earth there is but one tree visible on the East bank of the river, but it is more to the South than the location of the intersection marker. But it seems that all the features visible in the background match. If the picture is taken from that location, then it is the picture which is also visible in picture [16]. That picture was taken a little more than two years earlier. It looks like that in time in between a large branch broke of from the left (in this picture) side of the tree. In picture [16] there are not other trees visible, which excludes a large number of positions along the river as possible locations. But some doubt still remains. If the location is correct, than the picture contains the location from where pictures [16] and [24] are taken and the chimney must be the chimney along the road called "Borghareweg". The road along which the picture is taken, is called "Maasdijk". The intersection marker is not inside the picture.

On February 27, 2007 on 10:17, I took two pictures at this location, and verified it is correct. Changed category from "not sure" into "identified". They chimney at the horizon must be "Mosa" chimney.

[12] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 12, 1997. 14:50. The picture taken before this picture is [8] and after is [24]. The picture to the North is [8], the East is [13], the South is [17], the West is [11].

The picture shows a field with trees in the background. There is a line of low willow trees and some high trees (poplars). It looks like the willow trees are planted along a small brook. There is also a tractor visible near the willow trees. The intersection marker is placed in a field East of the street called "Pasestraat" close to a small brook. Not far from it, along the road there is a location which seems to match all the features visible in the picture. On the horizon, the Ankersloot plant can be seen very faintly (see also [18]).

On February 26, 2007 on 13:32, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. For this reason, I changed the category from "almost sure" to "identified". I took the pictures a little to the right of the exact location.

On May 1, 2007 on 12:15, I took two picture at this location this time closer to the exact location, but I missed some part on the right of the picture.

[13] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 12, 1997. 11:45. The picture taken before this picture is [20] and after is [8]. The picture to the North is [9], the East is [14], the South is [18], the West is [12].

The picture shows a field in the fog with some tracks.

On February 26, 2007 on 14:21, I took two pictures at this location. The location was unknown, but when we drove around, we found it. For this reason the category is changed from "unknown" to "identified".

[14] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 3, 1996. 15:26. The picture taken before this picture is [134] and after is [73]. The picture to the North is [10], the East is [15], the South is [19], the West is [13].

The picture shows a canal. It is taken from a rather high position. On the right side there is a building with metal bars above the roof. This building is clearly visible on Google Earth. Picture most be taken from the end of the bridge. The canal is called Julianakanaal. The road the picture is taken from is called Klipperweg. In the distance, on the right side of the canal, the Ankersloot plant can be seen (see also [18]).

On February 26, 2007 on 14:48, I took two pictures at this location.

[15] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 22, 1996. 12:10. The picture taken before this picture is [19] and after is [1]. The picture to the South is [20], the West is [14].

The picture shows a field with trees in the background and some buildings in the left. The buildings on the left are the Meerssenhoven. I identified the location by drawing lines from the various features of these buildings and also the pylons that are visible. The pylons belong to the power line going to the North. Starting from the distribution station in Maastricht, the pylons 14, 15, and 16 are visible in the picture from left to right.

On February 26, 2007 on 15:36, I took three picture at this location.

[16] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 16, 1994. 15:08. The picture taken before this picture is [144] and after is [115]. The picture to the North is [11], the East is [17], the South is [23].

The picture shows some fields with far in the distance trees and some buildings. In the foreground there is a pipe. The road from along this picture is taken, must be the Pasestraat, because along this road several patches are visible that could match the patch around the pipe. I studied the objects visible in the distance to locate the most likely patch. I also took the intersection on the map in account. The location where picture [11] is taken is visible in this picture.

On February 26, 2007 on 13:23, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. For this reason, I changed the category from "almost sure" to "identified".

[17] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 16, 1996. 16:21. The picture taken before this picture is [46] and after is [32]. The picture to the North is [12], the East is [18], the South is [24], the West is [16].

The picture shows some trees and round building. The round building makes it very easy to identify the location, because there is only one in the vicinity of the intersection on the map. The street where the picture is taken is called Wiegershof.

On February 26, 2007 on 13:08, I took three picture at this location. Not much has changed, except that two trees were cut down.

[18] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 7, 1997. 17:30. The picture taken before this picture is [3] and after is [9]. The picture to the North is [13], the East is [19], the South is [25], the West is [17].

The picture shows some tree trunks in the front and some kind of plant. The location was identified based on the plant. The exact location is hard to identify because it is hidden from the sky by the trees in summer time when they are full with leaves. The plant belongs to Ankersmit Maalbedrijven, which belongs to Ankersloot N.V.. This plant can also be seen in [12] and [14] .

On February 26, 2007 on 13:11, I took one picture at this location. It appeared that the location was wrong. It was placed closer to the building, inside the trees, not knowing that the field before had trees in the past. These trees have been cut down and replaced by new young trees. Closer study revealed that the exact location from which the photo was made, lies closer to the fence than the place where I took the picture.

[19] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 22, 1996. 10:57. The picture taken before this picture is [25] and after is [15]. The picture to the North is [14], the East is [20], the South is [26], the West is [18].

The picture shows a street with some buildings on the other side. I quickly found the building in the middle, but at first I had some doubts about the side from which the picture was taken. The line of chimneys on the building on the left, made me decide it must have been taken from the street, and that some new building was build on the front side. The street is called Ankerkade.

On February 26, 2007 on 16:39, I took two pictures at this location.

[20] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 12, 1997. 11:00. The picture taken before this picture is [38] and after is [13]. The picture to the North is [15], the South is [27], the West is [19].

The picture shows a fence with a road. A little further an entrance is visible. Although it seems that the intersection is not in the picture, there is no other road in the vicinity that matches the features in the picture. The road is called Boekenderweg.

On February 26, 2007 on 15:45, I took two pictures at this location.

[21] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 10, 1997. 15:15. The picture taken before this picture is [40] and after is [140]. The picture to the East is [22], the South is [31].

The picture shows a field with on the right side some bushes on the foreground and a small house on the left. The intersection is inside a field along a road. There is a small house a little further from the road that matches with the house in the picture. The trees on the far left side of the picture match with the orchard along the small road leading to the house. I am a little unsure about the exact location along the road from where the picture is taken. The road is called Kantoorweg.

On February 27, 2007 on 11:12, I took one picture at this location.

[22] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 7, 1997. 9:40. The picture taken before this picture is [66] and after is [47]. The picture to the East is [23], the South is [32], the West is [21].

The picture shows the Muese river. There is white trailer on this side of the river, which belongs to Kayak maasland. There is a white border pole, just right of the trailer. I found a page identifying it as border pole number 106. Another page also gives its location. This means that the trailer is standing in Belgium. It looks like it is used as a toilet room. On Google Earth the trailer can be seen having a grey roof. The field near it has many red coloured kayaks, which are also visible in the picture itself. For the exact location along the main road, I also made use of the six trees along the road on the other side of the river, which can be seen in the middle of the picture and are also clearly visible from the sky, with the exception that on of them (the darker one on the picture) seems have died.

On February 27, 2007 on 10:11, I took one picture at this location.

On May 1, 2007 on 11:33, I took two picture at this location

[23] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 10, 1997. 10:10. The picture taken before this picture is [33] and after is [34]. The picture to the North is [16], the East is [24], the South is [33], the West is [22].

The picture showed some houses. The intersection was inside a block of houses. Using Map24, I identified the street South of this block as "Adam van Harenstraat". The house on the left has a number plate with the number 47. With the use of Map24, I could identify the two houses on Google Earth.

On February 26, 2007 on 12:59, I took one picture at this location. The house on the left has changed considerable. It looks like even the window was made larger. But closer investigation reveals that the other features match.

[24] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 12, 1997. 15:40. The picture taken before this picture is [12] and after is [30]. The picture to the North is [17], the East is [25], the South is [34], the West is [23].

The picture shows a field with trees in the far distance. Although this might seem a difficult picture to identify the location, it did help that a division between fields is visible. The intersection mark did reduce the number of possible locations, assuming that the field division is still present and visible from the sky. I studied the pattern of the fields and lined these up with the trees that I found further away. This made me sure enough to identify the location beyond resonable doubt.

On February 26, 2007 on 12:52, I took two pictures at this location.

[25] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 22, 1996. 10:40. The picture taken before this picture is [32] and after is [19]. The picture to the North is [18], the East is [26], the South is [35], the West is [24].

The picture shows a street with on the otherside a building and a number of silos. There is only one street close to the intersection mark, and along this road there is only one place with features matching those seens in the picture.

On February 26, 2007 on 16:34, I took two pictures at this location.

[26] - Location almost sure

This picture was taken on April 21, 1997. 11:50. The picture taken before this picture is [125] and after is [130]. The picture to the North is [19], the East is [27], the South is [36], the West is [25].

The picture shows a canal with building on both sides. The picture is taken from the middle of the canal it seems. The intersection mark with this picture is in the middle of a canal. It is obvious that the picture is taken from the end of the canal. Because there is nothing in the foreground to idenity the precise location the picture is taen from. Lining up features visible in the picture, I would conclude it is taken from the canal instead from the boarder, assuming that nothing has changed.

On February 26, 2007 on 16:28, I took one picture near the location. I did not feel comfortable climbing on the "ships" that were at the side of the canal and obstructing the view. So, it was not possible to identify the exact location. The location is on private property.

[27] - location identified

This picture was taken on April 20, 1997. 14:10. The picture taken before this picture is [36] and after is [37]. The picture to the North is [20], the East is [28], the South is [37], the West is [26].

The picture shows a part of a forest without any features. From the shadows and the time of the day, the picture must be taking looking South. There are some forests around the intersection marks.

On May 1, 2007 on 13:07, I took three picture at this location, which we found after searching for a few minutes. Changed category from "impossible to identify" into "identified".

[28] - impossible to identify

This picture was taken on March 11, 1997. 12:10. The picture taken before this picture is [10] and after is [38]. The picture to the South is [38], the West is [27].

The picture shows some low bushes. No identifying features can be seen. There are not even shadows in the picture.

On February 26, 2007 on 15:51, I took one picture near a place which might be the location of where the picture is taken.

On May 1, 2007 on 13:17, I took three picture near a place which might be the location ofat this location.

[29] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 7, 1997. 14:10. The picture taken before this picture is [11] and after is [7]. The picture to the East is [30], the South is [39].

The picture shows a field with a small dirt road in the middle, leading to some buildings in the background. On the left side of the road there is a border pole. There is only one road close to the intersection mark. Along this road there are two bends in the boarder between the Netherlands and Belgium, which are marked with the border poles 97 and 98. It looks like border pole 97 is on the right side of the road, while 98 is at the left side. Also from the distance, my guess would be that this picture is taken close to border pole 98.

On February 27, 2007 on 12:36, I took two pictures at this location and verified that the location is correct. I changed the category from "almost sure" into "identified"

[30] - Location unsure

This picture was taken on March 12, 1997. 16:55. The picture taken before this picture is [24] and after is [39]. The picture to the East is [31], the South is [40], the West is [29].

The picture shows a field that is raised from the road with in the distance a few trees. Close to the intersection marker there is a road that is lower than the fields, and first I thought that the picture was taken from there, but the trees visible on the horizon do not really match. On the left there is also (very faintly) some "building" visible. On the right there are also some threes. Then I realized that the road South of this road and parallel to it, might be a better candidate.

On February 27, 2007 on 12:47, I took one picture at what could be the possible location for this picture.

[31] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 10, 1997. 12:30. The picture taken before this picture is [52] and after is [53]. The picture to the North is [21], the East is [32], the South is [41], the West is [30].

The picture shows a field on the foreground and kind of hill in the background. In the middle a road is visible. On the left side, behind some trees, a rood is visible. The intersection marker is placed on a field, along which there are some buildings and a road. From this it seems rather easy to determine the location, except that the trees along the road do not match with those shown from the sky.

On February 27, 2007 on 11:24, I took two pictures at this location, and verified it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" to "identified".

[32] - Location almost sure

This picture was taken on December 22, 1996. 10:01. The picture taken before this picture is [17] and after is [25]. The picture to the North is [22], the East is [33], the South is [42], the West is [31].

The picture shows a canal with a line of trees on the other bank of the canal and behind it a number of hills, which seems to be a rubbish belt. In the Google Earth image it seems that the rubbish belt has been finished. Due to the lack of identifying features in the foreground, I am unsure about the location.

On February 27, 2007 on 9:48, I took one picture near this location, but we failed to identify the location.

On May 1, 2007 on 11:23, I took two picture at a location that seems to be fit much beter. Changed category from "unsure" into "almost sure".

[33] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 10, 1997. 9:40. The picture taken before this picture is [39] and after is [23]. The picture to the North is [23], the East is [34], the South is [43], the West is [32].

The picture shows the side of an house. The intersection mark is placed on the edge of the village Borgharen close to a road. The picture seems to be taken from a sidestreet, but the features around that sidestreet are not clear enough for a good identification.

On February 26, 2007 on 12:47, I took one picture at this location, and verified that the it was indeed the correct location. For this reason, I changed the category from "unsure" to "identified".

[34] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 10, 1997. 10:30. The picture taken before this picture is [23] and after is [52]. The picture to the North is [24], the East is [35], the South is [44], the West is [33].

The picture shows some fields with in the foreground two trees. Because the bottom of the tree is missing, it seems that the picture is taken from a high position. The shaddows suggest that the picture is taken in the direction North-West. This made me conclude the picture is take along the road along the canal that leads up to a bridge. It is hard to locate the exact location from where the picture is taken.

On February 26, 2007 on 12:40, I took two pictures near this location. When I studied the pictures at home, I concluded that the location must have been more to the right. Further study of the picture, allowed me to determine the location more accurately, allowing me to change the category from "unsure" to "identified".

On May 1, 2007 on 12:07, I took three picture at this location.

[35] - Location identified

This picture was taken on September 25, 1994. 14:18. The picture taken before this picture is [74] and after is [84]. The picture to the North is [25], the East is [36], the South is [45], the West is [34].

The picture shows a street, with mainly bushes on the right side, and some buildings on the left side. One of the building has the name Destil® on it. There is a company with this name that has a branch in Maastricht, but the building looks quite new, and the location is nowhere near the intersection mark. In the background a pylon is visible. The road makes a little bent to the right at the end of the street. This led me to the give location, but I am not very sure about it, because the right side of the street seems not to match with the image from Google Earth. The pylon is pylon 6 in the power line from the distribution station in Maastricht going to the East.

On February 26, 2007 on 16:48, I took two pictures at this location and verified that it was correct. For this reason, I changed the category from "unsure" into "identified".

[36] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 20, 1997. 13:45. The picture taken before this picture is [139] and after is [27]. The picture to the North is [26], the East is [37], the South is [46], the West is [35].

The picture shows some buildings and a rail track. In the middle is a sign with the Citroen car brand on it. It seems that the building on the right belong to a Citroen garage. This made it easy to identify the location from which this picture is taken.

On February 26, 2007 on 16:19, I took two pictures at the location.

[37] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 20, 1997. 14:50. The picture taken before this picture is [27] and after is [80]. The picture to the North is [27], the East is [38], the South is [47], the West is [36].

The two pairs of railroad tracks on the left and many trees in lines on the right. On the foreground there is a simple wire fence. This made it easy to identify the location from which the picture is taken. It could be that pylon 8 of the power line going to the North is faintly visible in the picture.

On February 26, 2007 on 16:09, I took two pictures at the location. It seems that the original photo was taken a more little forward. The pylons visible in the pictures I took, are pylon 8 and 9 in the power line going to the East.

[38] - Location identified

This picture was taken on March 11, 1997. 14:40. The picture taken before this picture is [28] and after is [20]. The picture to the North is [28], the South is [48], the West is [37].

The picture shows a pylon from the side. Near the intersection mark, there is but one pylon. On the South of this pylon there are only forests. So, it must be taken from the North side. Still it is difficult to identify all the features in the picture on the image from the sky. The pylon is pylon 10 in the power line going to the East. I think, it is also visible in picture [78].

On February 26, 2007 on 15:57, I took one picture near the location, and verified that it was correct. Changed the classification from "unsure" into "identified".

[39] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 7, 1997. 15:05. The picture taken before this picture is [30] and after is [33]. The picture to the North is [29], the East is [40], the South is [53].

The picture shows a soccer field with a flag pole in the foreground. The intersection mark is in the middle of a soccer field. The pattern of the pavement makes it easy to identify the location from which the picture is taken.

On February 27, 2007 on 12:53, I took two pictures at this location.

[40] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 10, 1997. 14:45. The picture taken before this picture is [54] and after is [21]. The picture to the North is [30], the East is [41], the South is [54], the West is [39].

The picture shows a street looking out on a field. On the left there is a row of garages. The intersection mark is on a field. The road along this field has several sidestreets, but there is one that matches the features in the picture.

On February 27, 2007 on 12:26, I took two pictures at this location.

[41] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 26, 1996. 12:05. The picture taken before this picture is [5] and after is [42]. The picture to the North is [31], the East is [42], the South is [55], the West is [40].

The picture shows six trees along a road with in the background some houses. The intersection mark is along a road with trees. There is a group of houses a little further away. I used the alignment of the chimneys of the two houses on the right, to determine the location where the picture is taken. It seems that the intersection mark is not in the picture.

On February 27, 2007 on 11:34, I took two pictures at this location.

[42] - Location unsure

This picture was taken on December 26, 1996. 12:29. The picture taken before this picture is [41] and after is [2]. The picture to the North is [32], the East is [43], the South is [56], the West is [41].

The picture shows some low hills with a tall chimney and some buildings in the background. The intersection mark is placed close to a factory. However, the chimney and the building with the round roof that are visible in the picture cannot be found. It seems that these have been broken down. The building to the right of the building with the round roof, can be identified based on typical chimneys on the top of the roof. I determined the most likely location by aligning the end of this building with Two tall apartment buildings, which can be see in the far distance.

On February 27, 2007 on 11:39, I took two pictures at this location.

[43] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 16, 1996. 11:55. The picture taken before this picture is [58] and after is [45]. The picture to the North is [33], the East is [44], the South is [57], the West is [42].

The picture shows a dyke with a canal behind it with houseboats on both sides. The intersection mark is placed besides a canal. It is clear that the picture is taken from the end of this canal. On the left edge of the picture a part of the low barrage can be seen, that is the subject of the next picture.

On February 27, 2007 on 9:13, I took two pictures at this location.

[44] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 16, 1996. 10:03. The picture taken before this picture is [86] and after is [58]. The picture to the North is [34], the East is [45], the South is [58], the West is [43].

The picture shows a low barrage with water flowing to the left. The intersection marker is placed in the middle of the Meuse river close to a barrage. It is obvious that the picture is taken from the west bank near the barrage.

On February 27, 2007 around 9:20, I took some video at this location. I thought I also took a picture, but I could not find it afterwards.

On May 1, 2007 on 10:53, I took four picture. On July 21, 2007, I spend some time to combine this four pictures into a image matching the picture from the book.

[45] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 16, 1996. 13:40. The picture taken before this picture is [43] and after is [46]. The picture to the North is [35], the East is [46], the South is [59], the West is [44].

The picture shows a number of buildings with a round shape. On the foreground there is om field. The round buildings can easily be identify, just as the builing in the background that can be seen between the opening between the buildings. This makes it easy to determine the location.

On February 27, 2007 on 8:17, I took one picture at this location. I also noted that the shadow of the camera is visible in bottom right of the picture.

[46] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 16, 1996. 14:50. The picture taken before this picture is [45] and after is [17]. The picture to the North is [36], the East is [47], the South is [60], the West is [45].

The picture shows a soccer field with a one of the goals in the middle. In the background is the railway with poles for the overhead wires. On the left there is a small building. I used the position of the poles along the railway and the features of the goal and the small building to determine the location from where the picture is taken. The cables of the power lines going to the North and to the East are visible in the picture.

On February 27, 2007 on 8:31, I took two pictures near this location. It seems that the original picture seems to be taken a little further backwards.

[47] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 7, 1997. 11:30. The picture taken before this picture is [22] and after is [69]. The picture to the North is [37], the East is [48], the South is [61], the West is [46].

The picture shows some buildings between some open space. It took me a long time to identify the location where this picture is taken from. It was clear around where the picture was taken. It seems that some new buildings have been build on the right side of the picture.

On February 26, 2007 on 16:04, I took two pictures at the location. On the left, near the building there is now a tall tree that was not there when the original photo. This raises some doubts with respect to the location being identified correctly.

[48] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 25, 1997. 10:40. The picture taken before this picture is [60] and after is [49]. The picture to the North is [38], the East is [49], the South is [62], the West is [47].

The picture shows a field with two horses. On the left foreground their is a hedge, and in the background there are some trees. The intersection marker is placed in a field that is divided in three sections. In the picture two sets of white wires can be seen, which divide the field in three sections as well. The fences seem to belong to road leading to some buildings on the side of the field.

On April 30, 2007 on 16:32, I took two pairs of pictures (first pair and second pair) from different heights a little forward from the location.

[49] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 25, 1997. 11:10. The picture taken before this picture is [48] and after is [51]. The picture to the East is [50], the South is [63], the West is [48].

The picture shows an enterance to a storage area that is filled with irregular stacks of all kind of materials. It looks much like a breaker's yard. The intersection marker is placed in the middle of a field, which however does not contain anything that looks similar to what is found in the picture. Also in the area around it, nothing can be found that resembles a breaker's yard. On one of the gates there is a little sign on which I can recognize the words "ZUID" and "BV". I failed to find anything usefull with Google. Bases on the shadows that can be seen, the picture is taken in the direction West. The shape of the trees on the right side of the picture seem to match the North side of the field. It looks like the picture does indeed contain the marked field.

On April 30, 2007 on 16:38, I took two pictures at the location and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

[50] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 25, 1997. 12:10. The picture taken before this picture is [51] and after is [90]. The picture to the East is [51], the South is [64], the West is [49].

The picture shows a field bordered by trees. The intersection mark is placed inside a field with trees on several sides. Still, I found it difficult to be very sure about the location from which the picture was taken.

On April 30, 2007 on 16:54, I took three pictures at the location and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "not sure" into "identified".

[51] - Location not sure

This picture was taken on April 25, 1997. 11:40. The picture taken before this picture is [49] and after is [50]. The picture to the South is [65], the West is [50].

The picture shows some fields. In the background there are a few trees. On the left side there is a whole line of trees, and some roof of a building seems visible along the tops of the trees. The intersection mark is placed inside some fields. I tried to find a place that matches the features, but I am not very sure about it.

On April 30, 2007 on 17:05, I took three pictures at the location and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "not sure" into "identified".

[52] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 10, 1997. 11:40. The picture taken before this picture is [34] and after is [31]. The picture to the East is [53], the South is [66].

The picture shows some streets with houses. A house on the left has a street name plate of which some letters are hidden by a plant. The letters read "F??RE TRUWE". Using Map24 I discover a street with the name Floretruwe. This street is close to the intersection mark, and close to it is a side street that matches the features seen in the picture.

On February 27, 2007 on 13:00, I took one picture at this location.

[53] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 10, 1997. 13:45. The picture taken before this picture is [31] and after is [54]. The picture to the North is [39], the East is [54], the South is [67], the West is [52].

The picture shows some buildings. On the right there seems to be a tall building with apartments, judging the size of the shadow that it casts. Based on the direction of the shadow and the time, it seems that the picture is taken in the direction East. I had some difficulty identifying the location of this picture. But when I read on the building in the middle the name "RUWEEL", and used Google, I found the address "Schildruwe 55", it was relatively easy to identify the buildings, which were also close to the intersection marker.

On February 27, 2007 on 13:09, I took two pictures at this location.

On May 1, 2007 on 11:47, I took four picture at almost the same position as the first time.

[54] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 10, 1997. 14:10. The picture taken before this picture is [53] and after is [40]. The picture to the North is [40], the East is [55], the South is [68], the West is [53].

The picture shows some streets and some houses. Close to the intersection marker, there is a row of six houses with seven chimneys that matches the one seen in the picture. By lining up features in the picture (most right corner of the row of six houses with the corner in the grass on the forground, and the chimney of the row behind it with the most left corner of the row of houses on the right side of the picture) the location of the picture is taken from can be established quite accurately.

On February 27, 2007 on 13:21, I took two pictures at this location.

[55] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 9, 1994. 8:06. The picture taken before this picture is [70] and after is [87]. The picture to the North is [41], the East is [56], the South is [69], the West is [54].

The picture shows a roundabout and (based on the shadow) is taken in the direction West. In the middle of the foreground a trunk of a tree is visible. On the otherside of the roundabout, a house is visible. The intersection marker is placed on a round about. This made it relatively easy to identify the location from which the picture is taken.

On February 27, 2007 on 12:18, I took two pictures at this location. I also noted that in the orginal picture the shadow of the camera is very clearly visible at the bottom of the picture. From the shadow, it almost seems like Kim Zwart is holding the camera above his head on a stick and operating it with his right hand.

[56] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 8, 1994. 8:00. The picture taken after this picture is [57]. The picture to the North is [42], the East is [57], the South is [70], the West is [55].

The picture shows a field with on the right side a row of trees. In the background there are some buildings. Closely looking one can see from right to left: a tall chimney, four silos, four round roofs with a triangle shaped form on the top, two church towers above the most left of these roofs, and finally four triangle shaped roofs. The intersection marker is placed in the middle of some fields. South of this field there are indeed some buildings with round roofs and also the four silos can be recognized on Google Earth. On the foreground there is a path. This path can be seen along the North side of the field. This made it possible to identify the location from which the picture was taken. The location is just South of the street called "Sandersweg". On the horizon, from left to right, are visible the church tower of Saint John's Church, the church towers of the Basilica of Saint Servatius (the two towers are aligned in the direction of sight, and appear as one entity), and "Radium Rubber" chimney.

On February 27, 2007 on 11:48, I took two pictures at this location.

[57] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 21, 1994. 10:10. The picture taken before this picture is [56] and after is [74]. The picture to the North is [43], the East is [58], the South is [71], the West is [56].

The picture shows a canal with a church on the otherside. In the foreground the railings of a bridge can be seen. The intersection mark is placed in the middle of a canal. There is also a church and a bridge visible on Google Earth. The location is easily identified. The location is on the street called "Oude Smeermaeserweg". The church is the Saint Hubertus Church.

On February 27, 2007 on 9:07, I took two pictures at this location.

[58] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 16, 1996. 11:20. The picture taken before this picture is [44] and after is [43]. The picture to the North is [44], the East is [59], the South is [72], the West is [57].

The picture shows the Meuse river with two bridges in the background. On the right a large sign is visible with the letters "Zuid -" being visible. It is quite obvious where this picture is taken from. In the center of the first bridge one can see (very faint) the church tower of the Saint Martinus Church. The first bridge is called "Noorderbrug". The second bridge is a train bridge. A third bridge can be seen very faintly, which is called "Wilhelminabrug". The location from which picture [72] is taken, is probably visible in this picture.

On February 27, 2007 on 9:31, I took two pictures at this location. The original picture was taken a little forward.

On May 1, 2007 on 11:04, I took three picture at almost the same position as the first time.

[59] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 25, 1997. 12:10. The picture taken before this picture is [72] and after is [83]. The picture to the North is [45], the East is [60], the South is [73], the West is [58].

The picture shows some part of a street and a building on the otherside. Also parts of a power distribution station are visible. The left side of the picture is rather dark and there are leaves overhead. It looks like the picture is taken from under some trees. The intersection marker is placed close to a power distribution plant, but it is not clear from where the picture is taken from. A shadow of a small pole in the foreground along the road, indicates that the picture in taken in the direction East. I found some location, that could be the location from which the picture is taken, but I am not very sure about it. It is at this power distribution station that two power lines to the North and to the East end.

On February 27, 2007 on 8:47, I took one picture at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed the category from "not sure" into "identified". At home, I concluded that the original picture was take a little more to the right and backwards.

On May 2, 2007 on 12:24, I took two picture at this location.

[60] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 25, 1997. 10:00. The picture taken before this picture is [100] and after is [48]. The picture to the North is [46], the East is [61], the South is [74], the West is [59].

The picture shows four houses along a street, with the numbers 12A, 12, 10, and 10A. I think that these are some houses along the Kasteel Cartielsstraat, but verifying this with Map24 leaded to a negative conclusion. Next, I thought about the Kasteel Ceasterstraat. Then I noticed that the Kasteel Cartielsstraat continues into the Kasteel Goedenraadstraat where I thought the houses were. And it proved to be correct. Somehow, I still have some doubts because the house that are visible on the left seem not to match.

On February 26, 2007 on 12:24, I took a picture near this location, and verified that the houses in the picture are indeed the houses that I had thought. (For this reason, I changed the category from "unsure" to "identified".) When I took the picture, I was almost standing with my back against the houses on the opposite of the street. At home, I concluded that the picture was probably taken from a location closer to the houses with a wider angle. Because it was the first picture I took, I did not realize that a wide angle camera was used for the original photographs.

On May 1, 2007 on 13:45, I took two picture at this location.

[61] - Impossible to identify

This picture was taken on May 25, 1997. 11:10. The picture taken before this picture is [76] and after is [72]. The picture to the North is [47], the East is [62], the South is [75], the West is [60].

The picture seems to be taken inside a thick forest with no particular features visible.

On May 1, 2007 on 13:57, I took one picture at some location in the neighbourhood of the cross mark.

[62] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 25, 1997. 10:05. The picture taken before this picture is [82] and after is [76]. The picture to the North is [48], the East is [63], the South is [76], the West is [61].

The picture shows a street with some houses. It took me a long to identify the possible location of this picture. I am not very sure about the location.

On April 30, 2007 on 16:27, I took two pictures, and verified that the location was correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

[63] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 22, 1997. 14:00. The picture taken before this picture is [111] and after is [64]. The picture to the North is [49], the East is [64], the South is [77], the West is [62].

The picture shows some bushes along a play area. In the background on the left there are some houses. There is some baseball pole visible. The intersection marker is placed on a field at the border of the city. Close by there is a play field matching the one visible in the picture. I have some little doubts about the exact location.

On April 30, 2007 on 15:43, I took two pairs of pictures (last pair) near this location. I found it a little difficult to determine the exact location from which the picture is taken. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[64] - Location almost sure

This picture was taken on April 22, 1997. 14:30. The picture taken before this picture is [63] and after is [65]. The picture to the North is [50], the East is [65], the South is [78], the West is [63].

The picture shows some fields with in the middle some houses with some trees and bushes. The intersection marker is placed in the middle of a road with on the North side some houses and on the South a road. One would say that this makes the identification of the location easy, but it seems that the borders of the field have changed in the past years. I determined the location based on lining up features in the picture such as the edges of the houses and the trees. I am not absolutely sure about the location. The roof of the house on the left is also visible in picture [78].

On April 30, 2007 on 16:13, I took three of pictures on the right of this location. But from that location, the house would not have been visible. In the pictures I took, the pylons 11 and 12 of power line East are visible.

[65] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 22, 1997. 14:50. The picture taken before this picture is [64] and after is [95]. The picture to the North is [51], the West is [64].

The picture shows some fields. In the foreground there are some bushes and on the left there is slighter higher area. In the background some trees are visible and what looks like a nursery. On the left side of the picture there white house visible. The intersection marker is placed inside a field that is separated by what looks like a rough area with a road. I assume that the picture is taken along this area. I did identify a house with the characteristics of the white house on the left. In the middle of the background there is another house, barely visible between the trees. In the Google Earth image an house can be found in that location. To me it seems that some changes have been made in the area. It almost looks like it is a vineyard now. The exact location from which the picture is taken, remains unsure.

On April 30, 2007 on 16:07, I took two pictures a little to the right (as I concluded at home) of this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" to "identified".

[66] - Location almost sure

This picture was taken on May 4, 1997. 11:20. The picture taken before this picture is [68] and after is [22]. The picture to the North is [52], the East is [67], the South is [79].

The picture shows a low hill with trees on them. On the foreground there is also a tree and behind it a small brook, more a ditch filled with water. Behind this brook there is a small road. It took me a long time to identify the location where this picture is taken from, but I am quite sure about it. What I failed to realize at first is that behind the small road there is a larger road which is concealed because the small road is slightly higher in the terrain. A very small part of the larger road is visible near the right edge of the picture. Behind the tree in the front there is also a lamppost visible, which seems to stand a little further in the field. Probably it is just standing along the larger road. What I also failed to realize is that the brook might have dried up when the image shown in Google Earth was taken. The intersection marker is placed two thirds up the hill in the field.

On February 27, 2007 on 13:50, I took two pictures at this location and verified that it is correct. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[67] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 8, 1997. 7:30. The picture taken before this picture is [69] and after is [99]. The picture to the North is [53], the East is [68], the South is [80], the West is [66].

The picture shows central reservation of a road with in the foreground a (bicycle) path crossing the road. There are trees along and in the middle of the road in the background. The intersection marker is placed beside a road. This made it easy to identify the location.

On February 27, 2007 on 13:41, I took one picture at this location.

[68] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 4, 1997. 10:50. The picture taken before this picture is [81] and after is [66]. The picture to the North is [54], the East is [69], the South is [81], the West is [67].

The picture shows a part of a shopping center ("Winkelcentrum Malpertuis", it says on the picture) with an apartment building. I found some writing stating "Malpertuisplein 41A t/m 42B" above a door. I used Map24 to locate the address, and from there it was not difficult to identify the location based on the matching features.

On February 27, 2007 on 13:31, I took two pictures at this location.

[69] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 7, 1997. 15:00. The picture taken before this picture is [47] and after is [67]. The picture to the North is [55], the East is [70], the South is [82], the West is [68].

The picture shows a road with some houses on the other side. The intersection marker is placed along a round in an area with buildings. I looked on Google Earth around that area and found some houses that seem to match the houses visible in the picture. I especially looked at the direction of the roof and the placement of the chimnes. It seems that the house on the right in the picture got a dormer. The tree in the middle of the picture, still seems to be there.

On February 27, 2007 on 12:10, I took two pictures at this location.

[70] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 9, 1994. 7:30. The picture taken before this picture is [129] and after is [55]. The picture to the North is [56], the East is [71], the South is [83], the West is [69].

The picture is take a crossing of roads with buildings on all sides. Several signs are visible. There is a streetsign stating "Lage Frontweg". It was easy to spot the crossing near the intersection marker, matching the picture even without looking up the address on Map24. On the left is the furniture shop René Pans and on the right is a building belonging to Vredestein. In the back there is a tall chimney with the text "radium rubber" (last three letters not visible on the picture).

On February 27, 2007 on 11:57, I took one picture at this location.

[71] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 4, 1997. 8:40. The picture taken before this picture is [94] and after is [81]. The picture to the North is [57], the East is [72], the South is [84], the West is [70].

The picture shows a street with a some trees and some buildings mostly concealed by the trees. The road to the left makes a slight turn to the left. The intersection marker is placed inside a group of buildings. After some searching I found a location close to the intersection mark that seems to match.

On February 27, 2007 on 9:01, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[72] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 25, 1997. 11:20. The picture taken before this picture is [61] and after is [59]. The picture to the North is [58], the East is [73], the South is [85], the West is [71].

The picture shows the Meuse river with some buildings on the other bank. The intersection marker is placed in the Meuse river. It quite obvious that this picture is taken from the East bank. Determining the location was done by lining-up features in the picture. The building visible on the otherside of the river belong to Sappi Maastricht. The location is probably visible in picture [58].

On May 1, 2007 on 10:30, I took two picture.

[73] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 15, 1996. 9:50. The picture taken before this picture is [14] and after is [86]. The picture to the North is [59], the East is [74], the South is [86], the West is [72].

The picture shows a long street with houses on both sides. The location marker was placed near a long street in some buildings. Identifying the location was relatively easy based on the shapes of the roofs of the buildings on both sides of the street.

On February 28, 2007 on 16:07, I took two pictures at this location.

[74] - Location identified

This picture was taken on September 25, 1994. 12:41. The picture taken before this picture is [57] and after is [35]. The picture to the North is [60], the East is [75], the South is [87], the West is [73].

The picture shows part of a street with a parking lot on the others side. There is also a coach standing on the parking lot. Along this side of the street there is a sign with the letters MVV, refering to Maastrichtse Voetbal Vereniging, the name of a local soccer club. The intersection marker is placed on a street close to the soccer stadium of this club. It seems that some of the buildings visible in the picture are part of the stadium. The location could be identified. There is even a coach visible on the image shown Google Earth. It seems that the tree in the middle of the picture, just on the other side of the street, has been removed. The McDonalds sign can also be recognized on Google Earth, and belongs to the McDonalds restaurant "De Geusselt" at Stadionplein 2.

On April 30, 2007 on 17:39, I took three pictures at this location.

[75] - Location almost sure

This picture was taken on May 26, 1997. 11:05. The picture taken before this picture is [116] and after is [88]. The picture to the North is [61], the East is [76], the South is [88], the West is [74].

The picture shows a fence with a few on what seems to be a soccer field enclosed by trees. The intersection marker is placed inside an area that has many soccer fields. The soccer field most closest to the intersection marker seems to fit the picture, except that there are now many buildings where there are trees on the left side of the photo. That is the reason why I am not sure about the location.

On April 30, 2007 on 17:34, I took two pictures at this location. Although a lot has changed, I am quite sure that this is the correct location. Changed catergory from "unsure" to "almost sure".

[76] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 25, 1997. 10:10. The picture taken before this picture is [62] and after is [61]. The picture to the North is [62], the East is [77], the South is [89], the West is [75].

The picture shows a street with a small house in the middle of the picture. On the left there are some open fields. On the right one can see parts of a roof of another house. The intersection marker is placed at the end of a line of buildings along a street. A house matching the features visible in the picture could be found from Google Earth. It seems that a bicycle path has been constructed in the field on the left of the house. On the house there is a street name plate with the name "Ambyerstraat Zuid". The number sign on the house is 81. A search on Map24 of this address affirms the location identified.

On April 30, 2007 on 17:27, I took three pictures, one picture a little further awaythree pictures and two pictures a little closer, at the location.

[77] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 25, 1997. 14:30. The picture taken before this picture is [90] and after is [89]. The picture to the North is [63], the East is [78], the South is [90], the West is [76].

The picture shows some road in the open fields. On the left some buildings are visible in the distance. Some construction work on the sewer system seems to occur in the area. (There are two persons walking along one of the streets. This is one of the few pictures with some people visible.) The intersection marker is placed at a field on the border of Maastricht. It seems that house has been build since the picture was taken. I identified a location that matches the features visible in the picture (fields and houses), but I am not completely sure whether the picture is taken at the given crossing, or the one little further to the North.

On April 30, 2007 on 15:43, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[78] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 21, 1997. 17:00. The picture taken before this picture is [92] and after is [133]. The picture to the North is [64], the South is [91], the West is [77].

The picture shows a field. In the background some trees are visible. Also three pylons are clearly visible. On the right there is a roof visble of a house. The intersection marker is placed in a field close to a road. Which does not leave much options left for as where the location could be. The house must be the same house that is visible in picture [64]. The most right pylon is behind a forest area. There is, I think, only one that qualifies from what can be seen from Google Earth. This means that the most left pylon of the tree, must be the one that is the object of picture [38], which is pylon 10 in the power line going to the East. It is just visible slightly right of one of two tree, which I think are much more closer by then the pylons. I determined the location by lining up these features. But I am not very sure about the location. If this is correct, the three pylons are the pylons 10, 11, and 12 of the power line goint to the East. Pylons 13 and 14 might also be faintly visible.

On April 30, 2007 on 15:36, I took three pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

[79] - Location unsure

This picture was taken on April 24, 1997. 11:20. The picture taken before this picture is [95] and after is [93]. The picture to the North is [66], the East is [80], the South is [93].

The picture shows a field with some trees in the background. The intersection marker is placed in a field. It seems rather obvious that the trees belong to the trees that are on the hill called Dousberg. It is difficult to determine the exact location due to the lack of helpfull features in the picture. But asumming that the shape of the fields in the foreground have not changed, the location identified could well be the spot from where the picture is taken. It seems that the location is inside the area visible in picture [93].

On February 27, 2007 on 14:01, I took one picture at this location. Because the location is now in the middle of a golf course (still under construction) and thus on private property. For this reason we could not really identify the exact location where the picture was taken.

On May 2, 2007 on 9:00, I took two picture at a place possibly closer to the location.

[80] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 21, 1997. 9:40. The picture taken before this picture is [37] and after is [135]. The picture to the North is [67], the East is [81], the South is [94], the West is [79].

The pictures shows a street with a row of houses and an apartment building on the right side of the picture. The intersection marker was placed in side an area with buildings along a street called Opalinestraat. Not far from this, I found the street called Decorstraat from where the picture is taken. I aligned features in the picture to identify the precise location. Shadows seems to indicate that the picture is taken in the direction North. Which also matches with the given location.

On February 27, 2007 on 14:15, I took two pictures at this location. At home I discovered that I took a little to the right of the original picture, and also a little lower. I have been confused by the new grown hedge on the left.

On May 2, 2007 on 8:42, I took two picture at this location.

[81] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 4, 1997. 9:10. The picture taken before this picture is [71] and after is [68]. The picture to the North is [68], the East is [82], the South is [95], the West is [80].

The picture shows a crossing. In the center of the picture there is a lamp post with a sign reading "Terra Nigrastraat". On the otherside of the crossing there is a sign behind some bushes reading "'t Stedelijk'". On the right there is a sign before a white building reading "trichter college" and some text that makes it clear that it is a Roman Catholic highschool. It is also known as Bonnefanten College. The street called "Terra Nigrastraat" is rather short, and it only has few crossings. If you enter that streetname in Map24, it does show a marker for "Trichter College" at number 5. This makes the crossing at the East end of the street the most logical choice, also taking in account the placement of the intersection marker on the map. In Google Earth is shows a roundabout, where the picture has a normal crossing. Looks like it has been changed in the past years.

On February 27, 2007 on 14:25, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[82] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 25, 1997. 8:50. The picture taken before this picture is [124] and after is [62]. The picture to the North is [69], the East is [83], the South is [96], the West is [81].

The picture shows some streets with houses. The intersection marker is placed on the North side of the street called "Anton van Elenstraat". On the right of the picture there seems to be a wall of an apartment building. It looks like the picture is taken from the street called "Sint Annadal". The shadows seems to match with a picture taken in the direction North East. The shadow of the lamp post in the middle of the picture can be seen on Google Earth. This makes it possible to determine the location quite exactly.

On February 27, 2007 on 14:39, I took two pictures at this location.

[83] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 26, 1997. 9:20. The picture taken before this picture is [59] and after is [96]. The picture to the North is [70], the East is [84], the South is [97], the West is [82].

The picture shows some house along what seems to be a square. In the foreground there are two trunks of trees. The intersection marker is placed near the streets called "Herbenusstraat" and "Zakstraat". On the crossing of these two streets there are indeed some trees. Also the form of the buildings seem to match. Right behind the trunc in the front must be the street called "Herbenusstraat". One of the houses on the other street has the number "14A". Checking "Zakstraat 14A" on Map24 results in a positive hit.

On February 27, 2007 on 14:47, I took six pictures at this location.

On May 2, 2007 on 12:07, I took four picture at this location.

[84] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 2, 1994. 8:04. The picture taken before this picture is [35] and after is [97]. The picture to the North is [71], the East is [85], the South is [98], the West is [83].

The picture shows two streets with some shops. The shop on the left has a sign indicating that this must be Bruidshuis Pereboom. On their website it says they have a shop on "Grote Gracht 27". Searching this address with Map24, it seems that the picture is taken from the street called "Grote Gracht" and looks into the street called "Helmstraat". The intersection marker is placed closeby and the shape of the shop matches the image from Google Earth. From Google Earth one can see that the area behind the shop is being reconstructed with several cranes visible.

On February 28, 2007 on 11:59, I took one picture at this location.

[85] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 2, 1994. 9:29. The picture taken before this picture is [98] and after is [114]. The picture to the North is [72], the East is [86], the South is [99], the West is [84].

The picture shows a street with some buildings on the left. The building seems to have a staircase with stained glass. There is an iron fence along the road leading to the building. On the left there is a fence and some parts of a bridge are visible. The intersection marker is placed close to the East bank of the Meuse river on the Roman Catholic Martinus church. It is clear that the picture is taken from the street called "Oeverwal" and that the build on the left belongs to the church. The bridge is called "Sint Servaasbridge". According to a Dutch wikipedia article, this bridge was build between 1280 and 1298 to replace a Roman bridge that collapsed in 1275. This Roman bridge is generally accepted as the oldest bridge in the Netherlands. Only in 1932 the bridge, which was simply known as "the bridge" got its current name. Many old people still call it "aw brögk", meaning "old bridge".

On May 1, 2007 on 10:18, I took three picture.

[86] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 15, 1996. 11:10. The picture taken before this picture is [73] and after is [44]. The picture to the North is [73], the East is [87], the South is [100], the West is [85].

The picture shows a street with on the left some trains and on the right a few houses. The intersection marker is placed on the East side of the railway station of Maastricht. It is rather obvious that this picture is taken from the street called "Meerssenerweg". Just left of the middle a tall chimney is visible in the background.

On February 28, 2007 on 16:14, I took two pictures at this location.

[87] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 9, 1994. 8:40. The picture taken before this picture is [55] and after is [126]. The picture to the North is [74], the East is [88], the South is [101], the West is [86].

The picture shows a street with some houses. In the foreground is a tree trunk. A street sign on one of the houses identifies the street as being called "Marconistraat". The intersection marker is placed along the street called "Frankenstraat". It looks like that the picture is taken along this street behind a tree.

On April 30, 2007 on 17:48, I took two pictures at this location. On May 1, 2007 on 8:17, I took one pictures at this location.

[88] - Impossible to identify

This picture was taken on May 26, 1997. 12:00. The picture taken before this picture is [75] and after is [119]. The picture to the North is [75], the East is [89], the South is [102], the West is [87].

The picture shows some fields. On the foreground there is a barbed wire fence with immediately behind it a cow that raises its head. A little further there is another cow standing. In the blurred background there are some trees. The area around where the intersection marker is placed has been build with many new houses in the past years. Due to this and the blurred background I declare that it is impossibel to identify the location where this picture is taken from.

On May 1, 2007 on 8:37, I took one pictures South of the cross marker in the direction of the graveyard.

On May 2, 2007 on 8:18, I took two picture North of the cross marker in the direction of the graveyard.

[89] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 4, 1997. 7:30. The picture taken before this picture is [77] and after is [94]. The picture to the North is [76], the East is [90], the South is [103], the West is [88].

The picture shows a road with on the left a roundabout. On the otherside of the road is a white house. On the left there is an Esso petrol station and a Honda garage with the name "Autocentrum Amby". On the other side of the street there is a sign identifying the street as "Vijverdalsweg". The intersection marker is along this street close to a roundabout. After looking at this roundabout from Google Earth the location is easily identified. The Honda garage is part of Hensgens. There is a panorama view in front of the enterance from which one can also the the location where the picture was taken from.

On April 30, 2007 on 15:20, I took three pictures at this location.

[90] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 25, 1997. 13:50. The picture taken before this picture is [50] and after is [77]. The picture to the North is [77], the East is [91], the South is [104], the West is [89].

The picture shows some fields. In the background there are many trees visible. The intersection marker is placed in a field. The street West to field (which is called "Molenweg") is the most obvious place where the picture is taken from. There is a division line in the field seems to be good candidate. The trees in the background (behind the street called "Peutgenweg") and the shape of the fields made me sure that the location is the most likely location from where the picture is taken.

On April 30, 2007 on 15:28, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[91] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 21, 1997. 16:10. The picture taken before this picture is [121] and after is [92]. The picture to the North is [78], the East is [92], the South is [105], the West is [90].

The picture shows a part of a forest with trees trunks and some low vegetation. The intersection marker is placed inside a forest South of the road called "Schamerweg".

On May 1, 2007 on 9:17, I took four pictures from this location. Only at home, I discovered that these pictures do not cover the left side of the original picture. Changed category from "impossible to identified" into "identified"

[92] - Location not sure

This picture was taken on May 21, 1997. 16:40. The picture taken before this picture is [91] and after is [78]. The picture to the South is [106], the West is [91].

The picture shows a field with in the foreground the top part of a head of a cow. The labels in the ears of the cow bear the number 1587. The background is blurred. The intersection marker is placed just North of a small road. It is possible that the picture is taken from this road, because there is a line of trees not far from the road which could match the trees visible in the background.

On May 1, 2007 on 9:03, I took one pictures from a possible location.

[93] - Location not sure

This picture was taken on April 24, 1997. 13:30. The picture taken before this picture is [79] and after is [105]. The picture to the North is [79], the East is [94], the South is [107].

The picture shows a field. An excavator and a truck are standing in the field. It seems that the area is being prepared for building houses. The intersection marker is placed in a field near a street called "Drenkelingsweg", but since the picture is taken the field is filled with houses. In the background there are two low hills visible. The hill just right of the middle must be an "Dousberg", which is also visible in picture [79], and the hill on the left side must be the rough area at the end of a road called "Heserstraat". Because there are no recognizable features in the foreground and because the area has been changed a lot, I am not very sure about the location.

On February 27, 2007 on 15:36, I took one picture at what could be this location.

[94] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 4, 1997. 8:10. The picture taken before this picture is [89] and after is [71]. The picture to the North is [80], the East is [95], the South is [108], the West is [93].

The picture shows a roundabout under construction. A Total petrol station is visible on the otherside of the roundabout. The intersection marker is placed close to a roundabout, which matches the shape of the one visible in the picture. Also the petrol station can be seen. Positive identification of the location is relatively easy.

On February 27, 2007 on 15:29, I took two pictures at this location.

[95] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 24, 1997. 9:45. The picture taken before this picture is [65] and after is [79]. The picture to the North is [81], the East is [96], the South is [109], the West is [94].

The picture shows a house from the side. In the foreground there is a street, which is identified by a street sign as "Zeepziedersdreef". Below the streetsign there is a sign saying "68-78". Entering this address in Map24, quickly made it possible to identify the location where this picture is taken from. The house seen from the side, is the house with number 68.

On February 27, 2007 on 15:16, I took two pictures at this location.

[96] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 26, 1997. 10:10. The picture taken before this picture is [83] and after is [116]. The picture to the North is [82], the East is [97], the South is [110], the West is [95].

The picture shows a church building with round shape on the left. On the right a road is visible with some apartment buildings. Near the intersection marker, a church is visible with a round shape. By lining up features in the background with those in the foreground (the light patch on the pavement on the left is clearly visible from the sky) the location can be identified quite precisely.

On February 27, 2007 on 15:06, I took two pictures at this location.

[97] - Location unsure

This picture was taken on October 2, 1994. 8:26. The picture taken before this picture is [84] and after is [98]. The picture to the North is [83], the East is [98], the South is [111], the West is [96].

The picture shows a multiple lane road. On the otherside of the street there are some trees. Furthermore there is a bus stop and a phone booth. Behind these there seems to be some kind of park. On the left there is a lamp post in the middle, which has a large sign saying "Snooker Centrum Maastricht". There is also a little sign saying "St. Theeresiakerk". The intersection marker is placed just South of the street called "Tongerseweg" in what seems to be a park. It looks like the picture is taken from the opposite side of the road looking into the South-East. But I am not absolutely sure about the location.

On February 27, 2007 on 14:57, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it is correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

[98] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 2, 1994. 8:57. The picture taken before this picture is [97] and after is [85]. The picture to the North is [84], the East is [99], the South is [112], the West is [97].

The picture shows some roads. On the left there is a white building. On the right there is an old looking wall with bows. The intersection marker is placed near the street called "Zwingelput". From Google Earth a part of the old city wall can be seen. The street along the city wall is called "Nieuwenhofstraat".

On February 28, 2007 on 11:02, I took one picture at this location.

[99] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 8, 1997. 8:50. The picture taken before this picture is [67] and after is [128]. The picture to the North is [85], the East is [100], the South is [113], the West is [98].

The picture shows a part of a park. There is a tree trunk visible in the middle of the picture. There appears to be some water visible with some buildings and trees on the other bank. The intersection marker is placed in the Meuse river close to the West bank. On that side of the river there is a park. It is obvious that the picture is taken from that park, but I find it hard to identify the exact location. Just right of the tree the church tower of the Martinus Church is visible.

On February 28, 2007 on 10:43, I took three pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

[100] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 25, 1997. 9:25. The picture taken before this picture is [105] and after is [60]. The picture to the North is [86], the East is [101], the South is [114], the West is [99].

The picture is taking from a crossing and shows a street (called "Leo Moonenstraat" according to a sign) with houses on both sides. Studying the map on Map24, it appears that the intersection marker is placed close to the crossing of the above mentioned and the street called "Jonkheer Ruysstraat". The features seen in the picture match with those seen in Google Earth, and the location can thus be identified quite precisely by lining up features in the picture.

On May 1, 2007 on 10:07, I took two picture.

[101] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 2, 1994. 14:37. The picture taken before this picture is [146] and after is [129]. The picture to the North is [87], the East is [102], the South is [115], the West is [100].

The picture shows part of a road in the foreground. On the right there is a white building with no windows and doors visible. Left to this building there is a fence with a gate. Behind this there is a building visible with a round roof. The intersection marker is placed inside a group of buildings between highway A2 and a street called "Heerderdwarsstraat". There is only one building with a round roof, which makes it easy to identify the location where the picture was taken from, which is on the street being mentioned.

On May 1, 2007, I took two picture, one at 9:56 and one at 9:58. The last is a little closer than the first.

[102] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 21, 1997. 11:55. The picture taken before this picture is [118] and after is [104]. The picture to the North is [88], the East is [103], the South is [116], the West is [101].

The picture shows some streets with houses. On one of the houses there is a street sign which is difficult to read. I think it says "Rampstraat". When you enter that streetname in Map24, it returns "Dampstraat", which appears to be a street close to the where the intersection marker is placed. This street has four crossings, but there is only one that matches with the features visibel in the picture. This makes it easy to identify the location from which the picture is taken. The street from which the picture is taken is called "Monseigneur Soudanstraat".

On April 30, 2007 on 17:55, I took two pictures at this location. On May 1, 2007 on 9:30, I took two pictures at this location.

[103] - Location almost sure

This picture was taken on May 8, 1997. 11:40. The picture taken before this picture is [128] and after is [117]. The picture to the North is [89], the East is [104], the South is [117], the West is [102].

The picture shows what looks like part of a soccer field on the right. On the left side of this field there are trees. Behind these trees there seems to be another soccer field. The intersection marker is placed close to two soccer fields. It is rather easy to identify the location from which the picture is taken, but because of the lack of foreground features, the exact location cannot be established.

On April 30, 2007 on 15:11, I took two pictures near this location. The picture is definitely taken from this location, but because of the high bushes, it is not possible to determine the exact location.

[104] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 21, 1997. 12:35. The picture taken before this picture is [102] and after is [121]. The picture to the North is [90], the East is [105], the South is [118], the West is [103].

The picture shows an area with some trees. In the background in the right two soccer field behind each other are visible. On the left there are some fields. The intersection marker is placed in a field close to two soccer fields. The location from which the picture is taken is easily identified because there is only one are with irregular placed trees like those seen in the picture. Still some doubts about the exact location remain, because the exact location of the tree in the foreground is hard to identify from the Google Earth image.

On April 30, 2007 on 15:01, I took two pictures a little further away from this location. Changed catergory from "almost sure" into "identified".

[105] - Location unsure

This picture was taken on April 24, 1997. 14:30. The picture taken before this picture is [93] and after is [100]. The picture to the North is [91], the East is [106], the West is [104].

The picture is blurred and shows some bushes against a light sky. The intersection marker is placed inside a field. Due to the nature of the picture it is not possible to identify any location with a greater certainty that many other locations.

On April 30, 2007 on 14:32, I took two pictures at possible location for this picture. At home, I concluded that the two threes on the right side of the picture match with the threes visible in the pictures I took. I assume that the bushes in the forground of the picture has been cut down. I changed the category from "Impossible to identify" into "Location unsure".

[106] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 26, 1997. 15:00. The picture taken before this picture is [112]. The picture to the North is [92], the West is [105].

The picture shows a field with some cows in it. On the left there are is a field with low trees or maybe grapevines. In the background there are some trees. There is also a house visible on the right along some trees. The intersection marker is placed inside some fields, but close to the field I failed to find any possible location. I little to the West I found some houses matching the ones visible in the picture. But it seems some extra trees have been added to the right of those of which are visible in the distance. It also seems that the layout of the fences has changed. This makes that I am not very sure about the identified location. (The intersection marker is not placed inside the area visible in the picture.)

On April 30, 2007 on 14:22, I took three pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

[107] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 22, 1997. 10:30. The picture taken before this picture is [142] and after is [108]. The picture to the North is [93], the East is [108].

The picture shows a footpath with some houses behind it. In the foreground there is a tree trunk and also some pole with a street sign facing in the other direction. The intersection marker is placed inside a block of houses. Based on the shadows and the time the picture is taken, it is taken in the direction South. There are three groups of three blocks of house in a U shape that could matches those seen in the picture. Because of the trees that are visible near the far right of the picture, I think that the most West group of three blocks of houses is the most likely, also because it it closest to the intersection marker. The street these houses are in is called "Cupidohof".

On February 27, 2007 on 15:44, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

[108] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 22, 1997. 11:10. The picture taken before this picture is [107] and after is [111]. The picture to the North is [94], the East is [109], the South is [119], the West is [107].

The picture shows a road with on both side what seems to be a garden center. A building on the right has a sign saying "erica tuincentrum". The website of this garden center, used to show a picture matching the building on the right and states that the address is "Hermesweg 35". The road visible must be called "Hermesweg". In the background there are some houses visible through the trees. The location is easily identified with the above knowledge and is close to where the intersection marker is placed.

On February 27, 2007 on 15:51, I took two pictures at this location.

[109] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 26, 1997. 14:20. The picture taken before this picture is [119] and after is [112]. The picture to the North is [95], the East is [110], the South is [120], the West is [108].

The picture shows two streets crossing and some white houses. The intersection marker seems to be placed on a street called "Medoclaan" close to the side street called "Chambertinlaan". The houses on the South of the crossing, match those seen in the picture. Also the direction of the shadow of the tree, seem to match with the direction and the time the picture is said to have been taken.

On February 27, 2007 on 16:02, I took one picture at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[110] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 11, 1997. 11:30. The picture taken before this picture is [131] and after is [138]. The picture to the North is [96], the East is [111], the South is [121], the West is [109].

The picture shows some streets with some trees and houses. There are several streets visible that come together in an area with grass and some trees. Looking at the area where the intersection marker is placed, makes it rather easy to identify the location. The picture is taken from the street called "Susserweg". The road on the right is called the "Canneweg". The road on the left leading away is called "Musketierslaan".

On February 27, 2007 on 16:12, I took three pictures at this location.

[111] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 22, 1997. 12:00. The picture taken before this picture is [108] and after is [63]. The picture to the North is [97], the East is [112], the South is [122], the West is [110].

The picture shows a field along a road on the right side of the picture. On the left there is a house at the end of the field. In the middle of the background a church can be seen. There is a line of trees along the road. The intersection marker is placed in a field close along a street called "Laan Van Brunswijk" with houses on the other side. It is rahter obvious that the picture is taken along this street. The church that is visible in the background can also be found with Google Earth, and according to Map24 it is Saint Peter - Saint Theresa Church. Still some doubt remains besides which tree the picture is taken.

On February 28, 2007 on 9:43, I took two pictures at this location, and determined the exact location. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[112] - Location almost sure

This picture was taken on May 26, 1997. 14:20. The picture taken before this picture is [109] and after is [106]. The picture to the North is [98], the East is [113], the South is [123], the West is [111].

The picture shows a garden with a flag post. In the background is a white house with a rather large chimney on the side. There seems to be some kind of path between the two gardens of the houses. The intersection marker is placed between the streets with the names "Mosasaurusweg" and "Observanteweg". On ViaMichelin there is a blue dotted line, while on Map24 it is a street called "Sint Andreasweg". When I zoom in around this area, I do find a house besides a path with two chimneys, which looks to match the house in the picture.

On February 28, 2007 on 9:49, I took one picture at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[113] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 18, 1994. 10:55. The picture taken before this picture is [115] and after is [134]. The picture to the North is [99], the East is [114], the South is [124], the West is [112].

The picture shows the Meuse river running from the foreground to the background. On the left bank there are some apartment buildings. On the right bank there also appear to be some buildings. In the distance a bridge crossing the river can be seen. The intersection marker is placed in the middle of the Meuse river. It is rather obvious that the picture must be taken from the East bank of the river in the direction North. The building on the right is part of the Provincial House of Limburg. The church tower visible behind the bridge must be of the Roman Catholic Martinus church.

On February 28, 2007 on 13:42, I took two pictures at a place further away from the location, as I realized at home.

On May 1, 2007 on 14:36, I took two picture at this location.

[114] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 2, 1994. 11:08. The picture taken before this picture is [85] and after is [146]. The picture to the North is [100], the East is [115], the South is [125], the West is [113].

The picture shows a two direction bicycle path along a road with a side street crossing it. On the right a few houses are visible. On the left some tall buildings. There is a street sign saying "Leuvenlaan", which most likely refers to the street going to the right. In the distance there is a building with the word "mecc" on it. It seems that the word stands for Maastrichts Expositie & Congres Centrum", a exhibition and congres center. The address is "Forum 100". The intersection marker seems to be placed on the crossing of the streets called "Leuvenlaan" and "Randwycksingel".

On February 28, 2007 on 12:55, I took two pictures at this location.

[115] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 18, 1994. 10:03. The picture taken before this picture is [16] and after is [113]. The picture to the North is [101], the East is [116], the South is [126], the West is [114].

The picture shows a parking place on the left with a row of low trees in the middle and some buildings in the background. The intersection marker is placed just North of the street called "Joseph Bechlaan". When looking at Google Earth at this position, there is a parking lot, and the buildings around it match the picture. But it is also clear that some new building have been built in the area to the North. The street on the left is called "Gaetano Martinolaan". The road behind the parking lot is called "Universiteitssingel".

On February 28, 2007 on 13:08, I took two pictures at this location.

[116] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 26, 1997. 10:45. The picture taken before this picture is [96] and after is [75]. The picture to the North is [102], the East is [117], the South is [127], the West is [115].

The picture shows some streets with houses. There is a street name sign on one of the houses, but it is barely readable. The intersection marker is placed close to a street called "Op de Was" in a block of houses. The name matches with the street sign. Looking in an area the location can be identified based on the shapes of the houses and the tree which casts a shadow on the foreground.

On April 30, 2007 on 13:29, I took three pictures at this location.

[117] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 21, 1997. 11:10. The picture taken before this picture is [103] and after is [118]. The picture to the North is [103], the East is [118], the South is [128], the West is [116].

The picture shows two houses (with the numbers 46 and 44) along a street. The intersection marker is placed inside a block of houses surrounded by the streets "Desire Leesenstraat", "Niels Bohrstraat", "Kelvinstraat", and "Lorentzstraat". I used Map24 to find where number 44 was in the street "Desire Leesenstraat", but that did not result in an address in the block, but number 44 in the street "Kelvinstraat" seemed to be a hit. It is the first house on the West side of the street starting from the street "Niels Bohrstraat". Also the chimney in the middle of the roof, matches with the houses that can be seen in the street.

On April 30, 2007 on 13:59, I took one pictures at this location.

[118] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 21, 1997. 11:25. The picture taken before this picture is [117] and after is [102]. The picture to the North is [104], the South is [129], the West is [117].

The picture shows a field with in the background some trees and buildings. On the left there is a building with a round roof. Just right of the middle there is a group of large buildings looking like some kind of hotel. The intersection marker is placed in some fields. A little to the East some buildings can be seen, which match the "hotel" visible in the picture. It is clear that the picture is taken besides the small road leading from the city to this building. Because of the lack of features in the foreground, the exact location cannot be identified.

On April 30, 2007 on 13:52, I took two pictures at this location, after having determined it. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[119] - Impossible to identify

This picture was taken on May 26, 1997. 13:20. The picture taken before this picture is [88] and after is [109]. The picture to the North is [108], the East is [120].

The picture shows some bushes. The intersection marker is placed in the middle of some fields. There is a small path through the field. It is possible that the picture is taken along this path, but it is impossible to identify the location.

On May 2, 2007 on 9:23, I took one picture at a location which possibly could the location of the picture.

[120] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 21, 1997. 15:40. The picture taken before this picture is [130] and after is [143]. The picture to the North is [109], the East is [121], the South is [130], the West is [119].

The picture shows a fence with behind it a field with low trees. On the right there is a little part of a white building visible. The intersection marker is placed along a road called "Susserweg" in a field. From Google Earth there is only small building along the road which could match the white building visible in the picture. The shadow cast by a pole on the building, suggests that the picture is taken in the direction North. The building is near a division line of two fields. From Google Earth the field to the North has trees, but it seems that these are planted in a different direction that those in the picture. It also seems as if the trees are planted more sparsely. Of course, it is possible that the area was replanted.

On February 27, 2007 on 16:20, I took one picture at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

[121] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 21, 1997. 15:30. The picture taken before this picture is [104] and after is [91]. The picture to the North is [110], the East is [122], the South is [131], the West is [120].

The picture shows a field with in the foreground some cows. In the background a farm is visible. The intersection marker is placed in some field East of the road called "Cannerweg" close to the river called "Jeker", North of the small road called "Nekummerweg". In the area, there is but one group of buildings matching the those visible in the picture, and that is the farm South of the road called "Nekummerweg", and it quite clear that the picture is taken from that road. The location pointed by the intersection marker, is not visible inside the picture.

On February 27, 2007 on 16:44, I took one picture at this location.

[122] - Location not sure

This picture was taken on May 23, 1997. 11:20. The picture taken before this picture is [132] and after is [124]. The picture to the North is [111], the East is [123], the South is [132], the West is [121].

The picture shows some trees and bushes.

On May 1, 2007 on 15:59, I took two picture at a place that could be the location. Changed catergory from "impossible" into "not sure".

[123] - Location not sure

This picture was taken on May 23, 1997. 10:30. The picture taken before this picture is [133] and after is [132]. The picture to the North is [112], the East is [124], the South is [133], the West is [122].

The picture shows some trees and bushes.

On May 1, 2007 on 16:27, I took two picture at a place that could be the location. When I took the picture, I was quite sure, it was the correct location. At home I got some doubts again. Changed catergory from "impossible" into "not sure".

[124] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 23, 1997. 17:30. The picture taken before this picture is [122] and after is [82]. The picture to the North is [113], the East is [125], the South is [134], the West is [123].

The picture shows the Meuse river. On the other bank there are many caravans and some buildings visible. The intersection marker is placed inside the Meuse river near the East bank. Close to this spot there is a small harbor with around it many small buildings. It is clear that this must be the caravans. Because of the lack of features in the foreground, the exact location cannot be identified. I tried to line up some features in the background to guess the location.

On February 28, 2007 on 10:25, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[125] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 21, 1997. 10:50. The picture taken before this picture is [135] and after is [26]. The picture to the North is [114], the East is [126], the South is [135], the West is [124].

The picture shows an alley along the back gardens of some houses (which are visible on the left). The intersection marker is placed inside a block of houses surrounded by the streets with the names "De Beente", Termileslaan", "Kapittellaan", and "Wardehofplein". Based on the shadows visible in the picture and the time, it is taken in the direction North. From Google Earth an alley can be seen running from North to South. Based on placement of the chimneys on the houses on the left of the picture, it is clearly that the picture is taken from the South end of the alley.

On February 28, 2007 on 13:21, I took two pictures at this location, and found that the location was a little further away. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

[126] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 9, 1994. 11:37. The picture taken before this picture is [87] and after is [144]. The picture to the North is [115], the East is [127], the South is [136], the West is [125].

The picture shows a road with a double bicycle path on the right of it. The picture seems to be taken from a bus stop, because on the lamp post in the middle of the foreground there is a sign with the name "Oeslingerbaan" and some information that this is a bus stop for the lines 2, 57, and 24. The intersection marker is placed on the the street "Oeslingerbaan". The bus stop and the lamp posts are clearly visible from from Google Earth. It seems that the street called "Moutmolen" has been constructed since the picture is taken.

On April 30, 2007 on 12:43, I took two pictures at this location.

[127] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 14, 1997. 11:15. The picture taken before this picture is [137] and after is [147]. The picture to the North is [116], the East is [128], the South is [137], the West is [126].

The picture show some streets and houses. In the foreground there is a tree. There is a little sign with the text "11 t/m 27". The intersection marker is placed in an area with buildings and near the street called "Cruijshaag" and the crossing of the streets "Oeslingerbaan" and "Langendaal". At first I found it difficult to identify the location of the picture, because on the most likely location, there were some buildings on the right side. But when I noticed that at the right edge of the picture these buildings are visible, I did not have any doubts.

On April 30, 2007 on 13:06, I took two pictures at this location.

[128] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 8, 1997. 10:50. The picture taken before this picture is [99] and after is [103]. The picture to the North is [117], the East is [129], the South is [138], the West is [127].

The picture shows a road with fields on both sides. In the background there are some trees. The intersection marker is placed close to a road called "Oude Molenweg" just North of the side road called "Vroendaalweg". My first idea was that the road in the picture was the "Vroendaalweg", but later, I realized that it must be the "Oude Molenweg", when I realized that the buildings to the East of this road have been recently build. They are placed in the field on the left of the picture. The trees visible in the picture, match with those visible in from Google Earth. Also, if it would have been the "Vroendaalweg", then the intersection marker would not have been visible in the picture. The location from which this picture is taken, must be visible inside picture [129].

On April 30, 2007 on 13:18, I took two pictures at this location.

[129] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 2, 1994. 15:11. The picture taken before this picture is [101] and after is [70]. The picture to the North is [118], the South is [139], the West is [128].

The picture shows a field. In the background there are some groups of trees. The intersection marker is placed in the middle of some fields between the road called "Vroendaalweg" and "Heerder Holstraat". Between the trees a windmill is visible. I searched for "molen maastricht" on Google and found that there is a windmill on the address "Rijksweg 90". When I entered this in Map24, it returned a location in the area. I did find a location on the "Heerder Holstraat" that matches the features visible in the background of the picture, including some buildings that can be seen as well. Of course, it is not possible to determine the location very accurately. The picture is taken in front of the group of trees seen at the right edge of picture [128]. On the right side of the picture one can very faintly see a hill, which must be hill called "Sint Pietersberg". It looks like the intersection marker is not visible inside the picture.

On April 30, 2007 on 13:40, I took two pictures at this location.

[130] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 21, 1997. 14:10. The picture taken before this picture is [26] and after is [120]. The picture to the North is [120], the East is [131], the South is [140].

The picture shows a field. On the left there is a barbed wire fence to another field. At the end of the field there are some trees. In the background there are some hills. The end of the field seems to go down. The intersection marker is placed inside some fields East of the road called "Susserweg". Just a little North I found a field that matches the field. The configuration of the trees at the end of the field is visible in Google Earth. The tall chimney visible just on the right of the three trees must be the ENCI chimney. The hill in the background on the left must be the hill called "Sint Pietersberg". With using the tilt function of Google Earth one can determine that the shape of the hills match with those seen in the picture. According to Google Earth the end of the field is about 4 meter lower than where the picture is taken from. I zeroed down the location by drawing a ruler from the chimney and matching it with the tree, assuming that the picture was taken along the West edge of the field where a cart track is visible.

On February 27, 2007 on 16:34, I took two pictures at this location.

[131] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 11, 1997. 11:05. The picture taken before this picture is [148] and after is [110]. The picture to the North is [121], the East is [132], the South is [141], the West is [130].

The picture shows many parallel lines of straight, slim trees. The intersection marker is placed close to the river called "Jeker". It seems that the area with planted trees along the road called "Cannerweg" which lies West of the river, is the most likely area where the picture is taken. There are about fifteen rows of trees from the front to the back. It looks like the number of rows from left to right are even more. This makes it most likely that the picture is taken along the road called "Cannerweg" in the direction East.

On February 27, 2007 on 16:56, I took one picture at this location, and found a location (close to the location I had in mind) from which the trees very much match those shown in the original photo. Changed category from "not sure" into "identified".

[132] - Location not sure

This picture was taken on May 23, 1997. 11:00. The picture taken before this picture is [123] and after is [122]. The picture to the North is [122], the East is [133], the South is [142], the West is [131].

The picture shows some bushes and trees in the foreground between which part of a river can be seen. There seems to be some kind of defense building along the river. The intersection marker is placed inside the marl quarry. It is quite possible that the water visible in the river is one of the lakes in the intersection marker. I have no idea from where this picture is taken.

On May 1, 2007 on 15:59, I took one picture at a place possibly close to the location. Changed catergory from "unknown" into "not sure".

[133] - Location identified

This picture was taken on May 23, 1997. 9:40. The picture taken before this picture is [78] and after is [123]. The picture to the North is [123], the East is [134], the South is [143], the West is [132].

The picture shows a fence with behind it a marl quarry. The intersection marker is placed inside the marl quarry. There is nothing visible of the factory. I think I found a location at the end of the road called "Luikerweg". The fence is not visible from Google Earth, but the tree can be seen.

On February 28, 2007 on 10:05, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "not sure" into "identified".

[134] - Location identified

This picture was taken on December 18, 1994. 11:15. The picture taken before this picture is [113] and after is [14]. The picture to the North is [124], the East is [135], the South is [144], the West is [133].

The picture shows the Meuse river with on the otherside the plant of ENCI (First Dutch Cement Industry). The intersection marker is placed in the river near the East bank. It seems rather obvious where the picture is taken. By lining up features visible in the picture, the location can be determined quite accurately.

On February 28, 2007 on 14:04, I took two pictures at this location.

[135] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 21, 1997. 10:25. The picture taken before this picture is [80] and after is [125]. The picture to the North is [125], the East is [136], the South is [145], the West is [134].

The picture shows a road with a row of houses along a feetpath. On the side of the houses a sign says "22-34". Some other rows of houses are visible. The intersection marker is placed in a block of houses North of the street called "Oosterweertlaan". With the use of Map24, I established that the houses are not on this street, but must be on the street called "Aan de Dellinge 22-34", were the closest house in number 34. There is a name plate of the street in the first house. Although it is barely readable it does match the text "Aan de Dellinge".

On February 28, 2007 on 14:20, I took four pictures at this location.

[136] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 14, 1997. 13:50. The picture taken before this picture is [147] and after is [145]. The picture to the North is [126], the East is [137], the South is [146], the West is [135].

The picture shows an industrial area. In the foreground there is some rubble covered by some cover. In the background there are some houses visible and in the far distance two tall chimneys. The intersection marker is placed close to the streets called "Gronsvelderweg" and "Vogelzang". Closed to the intersection marker, the location where the picture is taken can be found. The two chimneys are the tall and lower ENCI chimneys.

On February 28, 2007 on 15:41, I took two pictures at this location.

[137] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 14, 1997. 10:40. The picture taken before this picture is [138] and after is [127]. The picture to the North is [127], the East is [138], the South is [147], the West is [136].

The picture shows a road with a house on the other side. The house is partly hidden by some trees. The intersection marker is placed just East of a street called "Langendaal". In the area around the intersection marker there are not many separated houses. Closer observation of the picture reveals that the house is part of a row of houses and that the trees are just obstructing the view. Based on this, there is a possible location where the picture could be taken. But I am not very sure about this location.

On February 28, 2007 on 15:34, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

[138] - Location unsure

This picture was taken on April 14, 1997. 10:00. The picture taken before this picture is [110] and after is [137]. The picture to the North is [128], the East is [139], the West is [137].

The picture shows a road in the country side. On the other side of the road there is some kind of orchard. The intersection marker is placed close to a road called "Bronckweg". From Google Earth there is but only one orchard visible in the area. It seems that the picture is taken from the opposite side of the road called "Bronckweg". But it is difficult to determine the exact location.

On February 28, 2007 on 15:18, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

[139] - Location unsure

This picture was taken on April 14, 1997. 14:40. The picture taken before this picture is [145] and after is [36]. The picture to the North is [129], the West is [138].

The picture shows a field with small trees (or grapevines). The intersection marker is placed just South of the road called "Bronckweg" and inside a field with rows of small trees (or grapevines). There are some hils in the background, which makes it most likely that the picture is taken in the direction North-East. But that is all one can say.

On February 28, 2007 on 15:26, I took one picture at a location for which the back-ground matches with the original picture. Changed category from "impossible to identify" to "location unsure".

[140] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 10, 1997. 16:05. The picture taken before this picture is [21] and after is [141]. The picture to the North is [130], the East is [141].

The picture shows a field with at the end of the field many trees. The intersection marker is placed closed to the border with Belgium, North of the road called "Muizenberg" just West of a forest area. Looking around in Google Earth shows that there is but one area from which the picture could be taken. Of course, it is very difficult to determine a location with any certainty.

On February 27, 2007 on 17:15, I took one picture at near this location. At home I discovered that the location was more to the left from where I took the picture. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

On May 2, 2007, I intended to take a picture at this location, but did not do so when I discovered that the fence was closed.

[141] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 11, 1997. 9:50. The picture taken before this picture is [140] and after is [148]. The picture to the North is [131], the East is [142], the West is [140].

The picture shows some fields. In the foreground there is some rubbish and a little shed. Behind there are some trees. There is vaguely a house visible in the background. The intersection marker is placed just West of the road called "Mergelweg". At first, I thought that this picture was taken in the direction South, but later, I concluded that this could not be correct, and decided that the location was unknown. Later, I studied the location again. Now I looked in the direction North-West. I conclude that the house that can be vaguely seen, matches the house along the road called "Cannerweg". Also the arrangement of the tree (except for some small tree close by that is gone) matches those seen in Google Earth.

On February 28, 2007 on 9:32, I took two pictures at this location. At home I discovered that the location was a little to the right and forward from where I took my pictures. Changed category from "almost sure" into "identified".

On May 2, 2007, I intended to take a picture at this location, but did not do so after I concluded that it would not turn out better.

[142] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 21, 1997. 18:00. The picture taken before this picture is [143] and after is [107]. The picture to the North is [132], the East is [143], the West is [141].

The picture shows some bushes in the foreground. In the background a tall chimney is visible. There is a white area on the right with some trees behinds it. On the left there is a field with some trees in the distance. The intersection marker is placed in a forest area along the road called "Van Schaikweg". It seems that the white visible in the picture must be the road and that the chimney can only be the tall ECNI chimney. Based on the shadows and the time, the picture must be taken in the direction East. This does not leave much options for a possible location. But still I am not very sure. The shadow at the bottom of the picture (just right of the center) is most likely the shadow of the camera. It is known that Kim Zwarts uses a large Sinar P1 camera.

On February 28, 2007 on 8:52, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

On May 2, 2007, we passed by this location, but did not take any pictures.

[143] - Location not sure

This picture was taken on April 21, 1997. 17:20. The picture taken before this picture is [120] and after is [142]. The picture to the North is [133], the East is [144], the South is [148], the West is [142].

This picture shows some bushes in the foreground. In the background a marl quarry is visible and also two tall chimneys. The intersection marker is placed close to the tallest chimney of the ENCI factory. I determined the location by lining up features in the picture. The different parts of the ECNI plant can be recognized in the picture. Still the exact location cannot be determined very well, because of the lack of recognizable features in the foreground. The lower ENCI chimney is also visible in the picture.

On February 28, 2007 on 9:08, I took one picture somewhere around the location.

On May 2, 2007, we searched for a possibly better location for this picture, but failed to do so.

[144] - Location unsure

This picture was taken on October 9, 1994. 12:25. The picture taken before this picture is [126] and after is [16]. The picture to the North is [134], the East is [145], the West is [143].

The picture shows some water. A dredger is visible on the left. Behind this dredger a hill is visible. On the right there are some buildings and also two tall chimneys. The intersection marker is placed in a lake on the East of the Meuse river. I determined the location by lining up the two chimneys and the features of the roof of the building in front. But it is still difficult to determine the location exactly. The two chimneys are the tall and lower ENCI chimneys.

On February 28, 2007 on 14:27, I took two pictures a little further away from the location, because it was not easy to get there. Changed category from "unsure" into "identified".

On May 1, 2007 on 15:02, I took two picture at this location.

[145] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 14, 1997. 14:10. The picture taken before this picture is [136] and after is [139]. The picture to the North is [135], the East is [146], the West is [144].

The picture shows a road with a feetpath along it. The intersection marker is placed in an area North of the street called "Molensingel" not far from where it starts at the street called "Hoge Weerd". From Google Earth it is rather obvious that the street visible is the one called "Molensingel". The location can be determined quite accurately, because of the fact of the small path that is visible at the bottom right of the picture.

On February 28, 2007 on 14:32, I took one picture at this location.

[146] - Location identified

This picture was taken on October 2, 1994. 11:50. The picture taken before this picture is [114] and after is [101]. The picture to the North is [136], the East is [147], the West is [145].

The picture shows a railroad seen from the side between three trees. The intersection marker is placed North of a water purification plant at the end of the street called "Rekoutweg" along a railroad. It is rather obvious that the picture is taken from the West side of the railroad. But there are several possible locations. Because of the poles along the track, there are not many locations left. From the map, I understand that when the picture was taken, there were yet no houses North of the street called "Groenvinkstraat". Some roofs are visible on the other side of the railroad, but only on the right side of the picture. On the basis of this, I picked the location opposite the street called "Groenvinkstraat", but other locations remain possible.

Around February 28, 2007 on 14:40, we went to the location I had in mind, to discover that it was incorrect. At home, I found an alternative possible location for this picture, closer to Maastricht on the same side of the railroad.

On April 30, 2007 on 12:53, I took two pictures at this location, and verified that it was correct. Changed category from "not sure" into "identified".

[147] - Location identified

This picture was taken on April 14, 1997. 11:50. The picture taken before this picture is [127] and after is [136]. The picture to the North is [137], the West is [146].

The picture shows a field with a group of free standing trees. The intersection marker is placed in an area with fields just West of the street called "Maastrichterweg". I searched a long time from Google Earth, but could not find the location.

On February 28, 2007 on 15:05, I took two pictures at this location, after we found it. Changed category from "unknown" into "identified".

[148] - Impossible to identify

This picture was taken on April 11, 1997. 10:30. The picture taken before this picture is [141] and after is [131]. The picture to the North is [143].

The picture shows part of a forrest. The intersection marker is placed almost at the border with Belgium in an area with forests between the streets called "Poppelmondeweg" and "Maasboulevard".

On May 2, 2007 on 10:48, I took one picture somewhere in the neighbourhood of the cross mark.
